MISSION

The Salvation Army Wonderland Camp and Conference Center exists to support the ministry of the Salvation Army by providing the opportunity to experience Christ through focused programs in a natural, safe, camp conference environment.



OUTCOMES

In conjunction with Divisional Leadership, a strategic plan is developed and implemented that addresses programming needs, potential programs, facility needs, staffing and financial stability for both the short-term and long-term effectiveness of the camp, and to provide an atmosphere that positively influences people in making decisions for Christ and in developing spiritual maturity, vision, commitment, and ministry. Oversee all aspects of camp operations and staff.



This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside

The Salvation Army. In these contacts, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Responsibilities

Manage the recording, processing, and banking of all incoming checks, cash, and credit card transactions.
Assure all invoicing to General Fund is completed in timely manner.
Marketing

A marketing plan is developed with Leadership/Administrator, or designate, and implemented that effectively communicates the resources/programs of the camp. The result will be a high level of visibility as well as utilization by both internal and external groups.
See that Wonderland Camp is appropriately represented at public events that impact the ongoing ministry strategy and goals of the facility.
Program Administration

Ensure policies and procedures are in place to maintain compliance with Divisional and Territorial mandates as well as the safety of participants and staff (Safe from Harm, etc.).
Responsible for developing and implementing a system that trains and holds all staff accountable for Safe from Harm implementation and reporting, and other required trainings – I.E. Mandated Reporter, Anti-harassment, etc.
Responsible for ensuring that any incident is properly reported if needed to the Safe from Harm reporting hotline, Human Resources, Administrator, Chesterfield Insurance, etc.
Evaluations of programs are routinely completed with reports to the Camp Administrator.
Ensure the facility is managed in a manner that ensures the integrity of the grounds and buildings are maintained in a manner that is fiscally sound and ensures the infrastructure to support the programs and ministry of Wonderland Camp.
Both short-term and long-term maintenance plans are developed and implemented.
Prepare and obtain approval for check requests, and credit accounts.
Plans are developed to provide for new and long-term ministry needs.
Ensure camp is run in a manner that meets budget expectations and complies with North and Central Illinois Division policies and procedures. Collaborate with Administrator on budgeting.
Employees and volunteers are recruited, trained, and developed in a manner that imparts clear directions, vision, leadership, and communication, resulting in a team environment to carry out the objectives of the Camp. Work schedules are created and managed to ensure smooth operation of camp. This is a joint effort between the Director and Assistant Director.
In conjunction with the Camp Administrator and other Divisional staff, a coordinated and integrated strategy is developed, implemented, and evaluated on an on-going basis that ensures Wonderland Camp is an essential part of the overall ministry of the North and Central Illinois Division. Assure good working relationships with both Territorial and Divisional contacts are developed and maintained.
In participation with the Development Department, sources of income/funds are identified and contacted.
Participate in the yearly Chesterfield Property Inspections. Work with the Maintenance Manager to ensure any outstanding or new recommendations are completed.
Prepare for and participate in the American Camping Association and Christian Camp and Conference Association inspections as required. Follow up and ensure any outstanding or new recommendations are completed.
Keep abreast of new or required certifications that may affect camp or staff for both CCCA and ACA.
Meet with the Camp Administrator or other camp leadership staff on a regular basis as established by the Administrator, to ensure consistent communication about camp issues.
Oversee Maintenance Department to ensure routine upkeep and repair is done in a timely manner. Assist Maintenance Supervisor as needed on items such as securing bids, scheduling vendors for onsite work, etc.
Guest Services

Host weekend and mid-week groups. Some of the duties include

Marketing
Attend all meals to meet the needs of the guests, to promote Camp Wonderland and to solicit future bookings from prospective clients.
Take every opportunity to promote and market all the aspects and ministries of the Camp.
Welcoming Process
Manage the welcoming of guests at arrival, receive paperwork as needed and issue keys. Escort the group leaders to their respective lodging and meeting rooms.
On call 24 hours a day to meet the needs of guests.
Administration/Assistance
Emergency custodial, maintenance and hospitality services as needed.
Serve food to guests and assist with housekeeping as needed.
Assist with the final tour of Camp, locking buildings, turning out lights, setting temperatures, checking for stopped up toilets, running faucets, open windows, etc.
Collect all loaned-out guest keys, statistical information and return to the main office.
Security/Safety
Provide emergency contact support for medical emergencies of guests.
Provide an appropriate discreet visible presence to our guests throughout their stay at Camp, providing information of local tourist information as needed.
Provide a continuous vigilance, always looking for guests causing possible damage to Camp facilities documenting, addressing the issue with the group leader, and reporting to Guest Services Manager for assessment of damage costs.
Other duties not part of this list may arise.
Other Duties

Must live on camp full time.
Will lead a weekly staff meeting which includes a devotional.
All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree, preferably in Ministry or Christian Education, with advanced training or degree desired.
A minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in ministry leadership, working with a variety of church leaders and programming. This includes a “hands-on” exposure to integrating camp/conference center ministry into the overall ministry of the church.
Previous experience in a director position desired.
Have a valid drivers’ license and be able to pass the MVR check.

Effective written and oral communication skills, especially in public presentations.
POSITION LIMITATIONS

In conducting the duties of this position, this individual will accurately represent the mission or teachings of the Salvation Army.
The individual shall keep the Camp Administrator informed of all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.
The individual will only commit Agency resources which have been allocated or approved.
This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Capable of participating in outdoor camp activities. Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. and in outdoor recreation environment.
Work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment with potential high and low noise levels, and work will be outdoors which will be cold in winter and hot in the summer with potential high and low noise levels.
Includes some travel.
This position is required to do light physical work and must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
