Food Service Lead

PURPOSE
This position is critical to the ministry of Sky Ranch and contributes directly to our mission of
leading youth and families to know and follow Christ. This position is responsible for assisting the
Food Services Kitchen Manager at Cave Springs. The Food Service Lead supports the ministries of Sky
Ranch by assisting the Manager with planning and preparing delicious meals for guests, and
maintaining cleanliness, service, and product quality standards in all cabins, public spaces, restrooms,
offices, and meeting rooms. This position is responsible for overseeing daily schedules, purchasing
supplies/equipment, supervising employees in the absence of the FS Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist FS Manager in all facets of food service at Cave Springs. This includes but is not limited to:
Assist in managing all cook staff with all meal prep to serve guests and staff per meal during the summer and meet the varying needs of the retreat season.
Assist with making sure guests are served a reasonable variety of meal options with plenty of food available for all guests, all in a timely manner to fit the daily program schedule.
Follow all kitchen and food safety standards.
Ensure that all food is properly cooked and prepared according to all health standards.
Plate and serve meals in a visually appealing manner to ensure that guests are welcomed.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment within the kitchen and dining areas.
Ensure that all areas are properly cleaned and sanitized according to all applicable health codes.
Ensure food storage is done according to health codes and all storage equipment is working properly.
Deal appropriately and creatively with any food allergies or sensitivities, so that all guests are treated and served well.
Plan menus and food ordering for a variety of guest groups to maintain and/or beat a set budget.
Back-up supervisor by managing staff on execution of all food service tasks. This includes scheduling, ensuring quality work, and any follow-up for correcting action.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch’s employee policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
Secondary Education

EXPERIENCE
One year of related work experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Food Handler’s Certificate

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of safety procedures appropriate to duties.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Excellent cooking skills and understanding of working in a commercial kitchen, generally acquired through a minimum of three years of related experience in food service.
Proficient working knowledge and ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

Ability to communicate the vision and values of Sky Ranch to both internal and external customers.

Much physical effort on a routine basis; ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works primarily indoors in a kitchen, dining hall, or office environment.
Some limited exposure to physical risk while working with cooking equipment.

camp accreditation by the American Camping Association.
