Food Service Assistant

Camp is an intense and fulfilling experience for people with many different skills and interests. Camp Cedarbrook in the Adirondacks, a Christian girls camp in the Adirondack mountains of New York, is looking for Christian women to work as food service assistants. Our kitchen serves family style for 200 people a week. Responsibilities include all aspects of food preparation and general kitchen clean up. Must have a current Tine Test
Must have some knowledge in food service preparation
Must be 18 years or older or a CILT graduate
Must be able to work well with others
Must agree with the Spiritual Standard and Statement of Faith
Assist in the daily operations of the camp food service.
Assist in the preparation of food as the menu indicates including washing and peeling.
Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.
Store food and leftovers at proper temperature.
Help train volunteers in food preparation tasks and use of kitchen equipment.
Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.
Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas and refrigeration units according to NYSDOH codes and ACA standards
Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as indicated through the camp’s procedures.
Help train volunteers in sanitation procedures and help monitor adherence to the procedures.
Assist in the preparation and packaging of food for use outside the camp dining hall.
Work with food service manager and other staff in reviewing pack out requests to ensure adequate and accurate amounts and variety.
Prepare and store pack out food according to camp and NYSDOH procedures.
PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB
Visual ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards.
Physical ability to operate kitchen equipment according to safe recommended methods.
Determine cleanliness of dishes, food surfaces, storage areas, refrigeration units, equipment, counters, shelves, and floor area.
Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds including unloading food, carry trays of dishes, lifting supplies and equipment as needed.
Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing and/or sitting on a stool at the prep table for long periods of time (30 minutes or more).
