General Responsibilities:
• Successfully plan, implement, and supervise Camp Piankatank’s Summer Camp Program (overnight camp and day camp) and Winter Blast retreat.
• Share the mission of Camp Piankatank with Virginia Baptists, local clergy, churches, board members, and guests.
• Develop and distribute promotional materials.
• Organize the overall registration process, including the use of Camp Brain software
o Develop information/registration to send to parents
• Ensure the safety, security, and satisfaction for staff, campers, and groups through regular checks and inspection of programs, functions, policies, procedures, and equipment.
• Comply with best practices and policies, ensuring their appropriate implementation.
• Assist in planning and implementing programs throughout the year, helping as necessary with those programs and other retreats.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Recruit and hire qualified, skill-specific summer staff with the input and direction of the Camp Director.
• Supervise summer camp staff and campers with the input and direction of the Camp Director.
• Design and create summer schedule and brochure with the input and direction of the Camp Director.
• Design and implement summer staff training schedule with the input and direction of the Camp Director.
• Teach and monitor proper skills, responsibilities, policies, and procedures to staff.
• Order and price items for the Camp Store.
• Create a budget and purchase items for the summer camp program within that budget.
• Organize daily activities to ensure a fun and safe environment for campers and staff.
• Participate with lead staff in ensuring a lead staff member is always on duty.
• Respond to parents’ questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Be available to be on call at night while campers are at camp, on a rotation with the Camp Director.
• Lead Bible studies and other forms of worship when necessary.
• Serve as lifeguard or ropes course technician when necessary.
• Attend regular Piankatank ministry staff meetings.
• Coordinate with other team members to effectively communicate the camp mission through social media and other avenues.
• Assist as necessary with retreat groups.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• 2-5 years of summer camp leadership experience
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
• Has an active faith in Jesus Christ and desire to see campers come to know and grow in Him.
• Physically able to handle the demands and rigors of a schedule and responsibilities that can result in long and demanding days, including at times physical labor.
• Displays effective interpersonal skills.
• Experience in program development, leadership, facilitation, or the equivalent.
• Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to occasionally speak in front of groups of people.
• Desire to live and work in a small town.

Housing Expectations:
Housing at the Camp Piankatank property is provided and required. The home is a three bedroom, two bath house that is currently being built. The home is on the camp property but in a secluded area away from the main camp. Utilities and internet are provided with the housing.

Note: It may be helpful to consider that we have a very active and supportive individual exiting this position in March. Hiring and preliminary plans for summer camp 2024 are already well underway.
