Activities Manager

This position is critical to the ministry of Sky Ranch and contributes directly to our mission of leading youth and families to know and follow Christ. The Activities Manager serves in a leadership role managing operations of Activities and assisting in Safety Management and day-to-day Guest Operations. The Activities Manager will have staff supervision responsibility for activity/program support. The position assists in the development and achievement of the camp’s objectives and will also be involved in assuring compliance to maintain ACA accreditation for Sky Ranch. Safety consciousness and activity policies and procedures will be developed and maintained by the Activities Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee all aspects of the Activities Department, including managing the departmental budget.
Establish timelines and priorities for department and staff.
Provide oversight to ensure that all activities are prepared for guest readiness and safety, addressing areas such as equipment, transportation, guest participation and safety compliance.
Collaborate with Summer Camp team to develop the activity schedule and routines and supervise day to day execution, ensuring Sky Ranch standards of excellence are met or exceeded.
Maintain documentation regarding activity procedures, inspections and equipment utilization.
Manage the Assistant Activities Managers, part-time retreat staff, and seasonal/summer staff.
Coordinate activity trainings and safety trainings. Ensure seasonal/summer staff is properly trained and certified.
Order equipment and supplies for activities year-round.
Lead and facilitate the Activity Committee; a group of directors and managers who help set the vision for activities across the camp and allocate capital funds to ensure all departmental needs.
Oversee the development of all Activity Policies and Procedures. Monitor and document staff execution of policies and procedures.
Manage recruitment for all Activities positions throughout the year, in advance of need and within budget.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in sales and marketing efforts of the camp.
Recommend process and procedural improvements.
Prepare and proofread letters, memos and other correspondence on an accurate and timely basis.
Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch’s employee policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties as required.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Manage departmental budget and ordering of equipment and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

College degree preferred.


EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three years of related experience in camp ministry.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

High ropes and Lifeguard certifications preferred


KNOWLEDGE

In-depth understanding of the field of retreats and camping.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
In-depth understanding of the field of challenge course, water safety, and shooting safety.
Proficient working knowledge and ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
Basic internet and social media skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Much physical effort required on a routine basis; ability to use up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
Requires complete physical agility, including but not limited to: bending for items below or reaching for items above the individual; crawling under equipment; stooping, and climbing step stools or ladder.
Certain water activities require an ability to swim both short and long distances.
Ability to travel to various geographic locations, including travel by car, and some overnight stays including weekends.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works indoors in normal office environment 50% of the time and outdoors 50% of the time.
Limited exposure to physical risk such as working at higher elevations, working in pools or lake, and leading physical sporting and challenge course activities.

Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally. Must be able to fully support Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement. An active membership in a church whose spiritual beliefs are aligned with Sky Ranch’s Doctrinal Statement.

Must demonstrate annually a clear background check and review of child safety practices as required for camp accreditation by the American Camping Association.
