Wesleyan Woods is a growing Christian camping ministry providing a great opportunity for the right individual to lead an established ministry whose vision is to reach the world for Jesus by creating memories that matter through camping, outdoor adventures, and intentional ministry. . Wesleyan Woods is a 50 year old organization with 160 acres located on the Cass River in the thumb of Michigan near Vassar and Frankenmuth. The camp's facilities include 226 camp sites, lodges, cabins, Worship Center, Chapel, Conference Center, and high adventure activities including climbing walls, ropes course and zip lines.
JOB TITLE: Executive Camp Director (ECD)
JOB PURPOSE The Executive Camp Director’s primary focus is to ensure the Camp is true to its mission, vision, policies and core values. The ECD is responsible for overseeing the spiritual health, administration, programs, and facilities of the organization. The ECD provides oversight for marketing, planning, financial and site development and overall leadership of Wesleyan Woods. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and collaborates with the Board and its committees to establish and maintain policies and procedures. The position also interprets and communicates Wesleyan Woods purpose, mission, vision and programs to outside organizations and the public.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead Wesleyan Woods in a manner which is consistent with our Vision, Mission, Core Values and Statement of Faith. Provide leadership in the areas of camp operation, programming, fundraising and marketing of Wesleyan Woods Camp & Conference Center. Oversee scheduling of all Wesleyan Woods events and facilities. Coordinate to ensure that scheduled group sites and buildings are ready for use based upon groups needs. Ensure a positive experience for all Wesleyan Woods guests. This includes coordinating events, addressing concerns, capturing guest feedback and solving problems to increase repeated camp usage by guests. Provide leadership to department heads, maintenance and programming for the recruitment, hiring, development, and management of staff in order to provide a cohesive staff committed to ministry and service. Work with the Board President in hiring and/or firing of full-time year around staff. Review and maintain policies and procedures, creating new ones as necessary.. Coordinate planning and execution of promotion and marketing of the camp. Assist Camp Board Committees as necessary to further promote and manage Wesleyan Woods. Serve as a key representative to churches and groups representing the Camp at conferences, conventions and meetings. Work with the Board President and Treasurer to oversee the financial management of Wesleyan Woods, including the yearly budget development, monitoring, and management of the financial progress. Administer and adhere to the financial procedures set forth by the Wesleyan Woods Board of Directors. Provide a written monthly status report to the Board President and Board of Directors and attend open Board of Directors meetings to ensure effective communication and planning. Work through the appropriate Camp Board committees to plan for and execute capital improvements to facilities and grounds.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Has related ministry, business or camp experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience) in business, ministry and/or related fields
Professional Qualifications and Skills Ability to lead by example Requires strong organization, administration, interpersonal, problem solving, leadership and executive management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills Supervisory experience in non-profit organizations Hands on experience with budget management skills, budget preparation, analysis and reporting Organization skills including planning, delegating and program management Skills to collaborate with, motivate and empower staff and volunteers Ability to plan, coordinate, evaluate, delegate, train and supervise others Ability to perform short and long range planning Able to manage an office environment Skillset to perform marketing and promotion Able to lead fundraising activities for the camp Willingness and ability to assume responsibility directly or indirectly for the operation of camp Understands the operations and purpose of the various areas/departments of camp
Personal Characteristics Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and shows a consistent walk with God Meets the biblical qualifications for an elder (I Timothy 3 and 1 Peter 5) Has a call to serve and further the kingdom through camp ministry Has a desire to see campers become saved and grow in their faith Desires to serve Jesus Christ with a shepherd’s heart toward staff, volunteers and guests Able to work with campers and staff in a cooperative, supervisory and encouraging manner Eager to learn Willing to forego some personal rights (i.e., work odd hours during the camping season) for the ministry Is moral and ethical in all personal and business-related matters Self-starter and must have discipline of time management Observant and attentive to details Neat and clean in practice and appearance Aligns with Wesleyan Woods vision, mission, core values and statement of faith
