Maintenance Worker
Maintenance/grounds workers needed for our summer season. Opportunities are available for the full season, part of the season, and in a supervisory or non-supervisory role.
Job Summary Maintenance Assistants and Head Maintenance work together at camp according to their skills and experience in all aspects of camp buildings and grounds, equipment and Vehicle/Waterfront maintenance during the summer season, including performing repairs, preventative maintenance, trash and recycling pickup, cleaning facilities. All maintenance staff will make sure maintenance experiences for staff and campers reflect the camp mission to help children and youth put Christ in every phase of life, to form healthy relationships, and to develop positive feelings about themselves.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Handling repair needs arising in any area of camp. Ensure that the Maintenance area s clean, kept free from litter, and that tools and supplies are stored in a safe, organized and secure manner. Ensure drinking water and firewood is stocked in designated areas Lawn mowing with minimal camper impact Picking up recycling and trash throughout camp Mopping floors in dining room and kitchen Maintaining administrative records as required Assisting with camp programs, and activities and being on-time and present for all assigned activities; Being able and willing to treat each camper, staff person, and peers with respect and dignity at all times, handling conflicts with appropriate responses. Serve as a Morning Watch partner, guiding bible study and prayer with campers As a member of the camp Support Staff, assist in planning the weekly worship service Communicate openly with Camp Director any issues Know, enforce, and follow all emergency, safety and policy rules and procedures associated with the camp and all program areas. Perform other duties, not listed herein, as directed by the Camp Director(s).
Qualifications Basic experience in wide variety of skills, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing Ability to troubleshoot, assess, delegate and articulate issues with staff and vendors Willingness to serve with flexibility and enthusiasm as a member of a team and the ability to work effectively with little direct supervision. Must have valid driver’s license; CDL passenger endorsement a plus. Must pass North Central Camp Cherith’s criminal background check standards Must agree with North Central’s Camp Cherith’s Statement of Faith and be able to support the Camp Cherith mission statement. Must abide by the personal conduct code set out in Employee Handbook.
Physical Abilities While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, or walk for most of an 8-hour day, talk and hear. Requires repeated bending, finger and hand dexterity, ability to be on ladders, operate motorized tools, drive truck and tractor, ability to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis, ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally, Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to insects, bees, snakes, rodents, ticks, weather extremes, cleaning chemicals, motorized equipment and tools.
