Executive Director

CAMP DESCRIPTION: Warner Camp, a year-round Christian camp, RV park, and retreat and conference center located in southwest Michigan, near the shores of Lake Michigan at Grand Junction, is seeking a Camp Director. Our mission is “to use our distinct environment to serve God, the church, and the community through life changing experiences.” In existence since 1891, Warner Camp provides youth camps for 3rd through 12th grade as well as offering a uniquely rustic location for camping, retreats and conference events. Warner Camp is a widely recognized camp and conference center and a member of the Christian Camp and Conference Association. It is the birthplace of the Church of God movement. Known for its outreach to southwest Michigan and northern Indiana, Warner Camp provides an excellent camp experience which includes water activities like tubing, canoeing, swimming, and water toys. It also offers a variety of land activities including archery, team building initiatives, field games, a high ropes course, a climbing wall, and a zipline during its summer programs. In the fall, winter and spring seasons Warner Camp serves other not-for-profit organizations, schools and churches through guest group accommodations. Warner Camp’s reputation is built on its excellent staff, thrilling team building activities, outstanding customer service, and convenient location.

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Camp Board of Directors, and being consistent with the Christian mission of Warner Camp, the Camp Director will provide overall management, strategic planning and leadership for the camp. The Director develops a vision and strategic plan with input from the Board of Directors and staff that includes a focus on quality, servant leadership, outstanding camper service and safety. The Director supervises the camp team including the current full and part-time staff, seasonal staff, and volunteers. Warner Camp operates on a $350,000 budget with 400 summer campers and an additional 2000 or more retreat and camping guests. The successful candidate will be responsible for development and implementation of goals in the strategic plan. They should possess a high level of leadership, organizational, team building and interpersonal skills. We are looking for a catalytic personality who can cast an effective vision for the camp.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates Vision and Establishes Direction. Promotes and demonstrates the Christian mission and character development values of caring, honesty, accountability, respect, integrity, and responsibility. Develops and implements the strategic direction of Warner Camp in conjunction with the Board of Directors. Develops and communicates a vision of growth, outreach and effective programs.
Strengthens Donor Environment. Directs a successful annual fund campaign with staff and volunteers. Provides direction to staff in the areas of financial and community development, volunteer development, and alumni development. Expands and diversifies the funding base of Warner Camp to achieve public, private and foundation funding.
Effectively Develops and Manages People and Resources. Maintains a healthy relationship with an active, engaged, and diverse board of directors. Provides leadership and management to ensure the Christian mission and core values of Warner Camp are put into practice. Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of camp initiatives. Assists staff to identify and meet all development needs with competencies and action plans built into goals and objectives for each employee. Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems. Develops, manages and monitors the operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets. Maintains systems of financial control including revenue, expenses, and inventories.
Creates and Maintains a Focus on Program Quality. Coordinates the development and management of cutting edge programs in youth camp and guest groups and works to increase camp participation. Ensures outstanding internal and external service. Identifies and responds to emerging trends in camping and conferencing.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Preferred: BA or BS degree. Minimum 5 years progressive experience in operations/program management. 5 years previous experience in resident camp or similar setting preferred. Strong financial development experience. Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels. Demonstrated success in staff development and board development. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy. Successful fiscal management of $250,000 or larger budget. Demonstrated success in change management.
