Kitchen Intern
2026 Summit Internships: Kitchen Intern job description Reports to: Regan Stoll, Hospitality Manager Indirect Reports To: Eric Almaraz, Kitchen Manager Location: Summit Headquarters, Manitou Springs, CO Department: Ministry Services Hours: 40 hours per week, overtime as needed Compensation: $15.50 per hour Please note: $350 per month for meals and $200 per month in rent will be deducted from pay to help cover these additional expenses.
The internship is designed for an ideal length of 12-14 weeks. However, start and end dates are negotiable from May 1st to September 1st. The intern must commit to a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks in order to be considered for this position.
Summit Ministries is home to hundreds of staff, students, and guests each year. The Kitchen intern at Summit plays a vital role in providing for the summer conference’s hotel kitchen. A signi?cant amount of life happens around the kitchen (table), and the efforts that go into sourcing and stocking the hotel are crucial. The kitchen intern will play an important part in preparing, welcoming, and caring for each student, staff, and guest while gaining culinary experience under the training of a professional chef. This position includes preparing daily meals, maintaining an inventory of kitchen supplies, and procuring supplies for the hotel. This position will work directly with the Hospitality Team for any special events involving staff meetings, donor meetings, Conference and Events, graduation, and other special events.
Daily education, spiritual development, lots of hands-on practice, and regular feedback are major parts of the program. During the internship, the Kitchen intern will be a part of a variety of different tasks tied to the operations required to serve a community of 300 people. The work can be physically challenging, but it is often rewarding through being a participant in the tangible care of the Summit campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Preparation & Production -Assist Kitchen Manager with basic prep work (washing, chopping, measuring, and portioning ingredients). -Help with assembling dishes, salads, or garnishes according to recipes and instructions. -Maintain proper food handling, labeling, and storage practices. -Assist with deliveries—checking, unpacking, and organizing inventory. -Help with prep lists and daily closing or opening duties.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation -Keep workstations clean, sanitized, and organized at all times. -Assist with dishwashing and general cleanup as needed. -Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards (e.g., ServSafe practices).
Learning & Development -Observe and learn professional kitchen techniques and timing. -Participate in training on menu items, kitchen safety, and equipment use. -Receive feedback and guidance to improve culinary skills and efficiency. -Participate in weekly mentoring meetings and professional development courses -Regular reading assignments given for weekly book study
Department Support -Assist the hospitality team with setup and breakdown of special events, cleaning, and returning equipment to its proper location. -Help ensure dining areas are clean and organized -Fill staff shortages on hospitality team as needed
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: -Must be 18 by May 17, 2026 -Mature Christian, grounded in the Word and Biblical worldview -The ability to meet deadlines and work within a team -Strong initiative and problem solving -Strong communication and interpersonal skills -Able to work alone numerous times a week -A willingness to work and live alongside a community of students and fellow staff. -Attention to detail, especially with cleanliness and order of physical surroundings -Must be willing to work weekends or after business hours. Summer conferences may require a consistent Saturday work schedule.
