Accountant

Mount Hermon (located in the redwood forest near Santa Cruz, CA and 10 minutes from the Pacific Ocean) is hiring a full-time year round Accountant. They will be responsible for input, reconciliation, and review of various accounting activities as they pertain to the organization’s Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable. The objective is to ensure the accurate collection of bills, financial accounting, and reporting in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon's mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.

Key Job Accountabilities:

• Ensure successful completion of weekly Accounts Payable processing, including monitoring Accounts Payable email, communication with departmental staff, monitoring approval process, and preparing check and ACH process.
• Process incoming credit cards, cash and checks for deposit.
• Maintain employee rent receivable accounts.
• Interact with multiple software applications to transfer data into the accounting system.
• Reconcile cash deposits to vaults and bank.
• Prepare reconciliations of bank and GL accounts, including month and year-end journal entries.
• Interact with staff to communicate accounting procedures and processes and offer assistance as needed.
• Prepare reconciliation, workpapers and other tasks as needed for audit preparation.
• Assist in annual budgeting as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

• College degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Work Experience:

• Five+ years accounting training and ERP experience are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Accounting skills and working knowledge of General Ledger required.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in MS Excel including Pivot Table and Vlookup and/or create new spreadsheets as required.
• Ability to learn multiple software programs with relative ease including ERP system and be able to build and customize system reports.
• Maintain process documentation as needed.

Physical Demands:

• The physical environment requires the employee to sit at a desk and work on a computer for long periods. The primary job responsibilities involve long hours of data entry. In addition, there may be occasional standing, squatting, stooping, and twisting. Possible occasional ability to lift/carry up to 20 lb. boxes for short distances.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all areas encountered in the job.
• May be requested to work overtime for occasional deadlines during high volume seasons such as audit.
• Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
• Must have a clean driving record of at least three years and agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
• Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
• Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
