Assistant Food Service Manager

As a member of the Food Service Management Team, the Assistant Food Service Manager will prepare quality meals for a wide range of group sizes including high-capacity events, assist in the management of a fluctuating number of staff suited for the amount of guests being served, manage and promote the spiritual
and professional development of all Food Service Staff. The Food Service Department is a critical component of Black Lake's ministry to campers, guest groups, and summer staff, many of whom work at Black Lake Bible Camp as their first work experience.

Leadership

• Full engagement and commitment to the Food Service Management Team
• Demonstrate a servant leadership approach to Food Service Staff by facilitating a supportive environment for spiritual formation of staff, and the internalization of BLBC's Vision, Mission and Core Values
• Assist in the management of all Food Service Staff, including but not limited to: staff
recruitment, orientation, training, coaching, supervision, and evaluation
• Assist in the planning of all menus for Black Lake Bible Camp, including but not limited to new seasonal menus, events, and catering
• Assist in the development and implementation of systems for effective planning and delegation of all Food Service work management
• Assist in the management of the camp kitchen and dining hall, including but not limited to all cooking and serving areas
• Satisfy all requirements of applicable rules and laws relating to Food Service
• Work closely with the Food Service Manager to maintain all
kitchen equipment
• Maintain kitchen and dining hall sanitation
• Work closely with the Food Service Manager to create, maintain, and adjust scheduling for all Food Service Staff

Quality Assurance

• Ensure that continuous improvement and efficiency are embedded and used in kitchen procedures
• At each meal, monitor product to ensure consistent high quality
• Assist in the development and implementation of plans to accommodate guests with dietary restrictions
• Assist in inventory, ordering and stocking of all food and Food Service related supplies and equipment
• Support the recruitment of staff by working with external partners as directed

General

• Participate in professional development
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the Food Service Manager

The following may be acquired through any combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, and on-the-job training.

Knowledge and Skills
• Understand and abide by the BLBC vision and mission
• Demonstrate safe and efficient use of all kitchen equipment
• Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure
• Demonstrate ability to lead and manage in Food Service settings, with strong team-building skills, a collaborative mindset, and a highly relational approach to teamwork
• Demonstrate organizational skills
• Consistently use effective communication skills across all settings
• Demonstrate knowledge in the use of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Suite and any systems related to the Food Service industry
• Ability to innovate, analyze, and solve complex issues

Work Environment

• Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds
• Ability to stand, kneel, and sit for extended periods of time
• Ability to work in areas including but not limited to kitchen, dining hall

Work Schedule

• Hourly: 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime hours during the summer months.

• Availability to work morning, afternoons, and evenings on weekdays and weekends is required

Management Overview
• Positions that report to you include but are not limited to Prep Cooks, Shift Leads, Dishwashers, and Utility Cooks
• The number of Food Service Staff will widely range throughout the year based on guests being served and this position is responsible for being able to supervise all staff while maintaining their responsibilities while the Food Service Manager is absent
• This position holds responsibility for all activities that take place in the dining hall while then Food Service Manager is absent
