This position requires both relational and operational leadership. For three months of the year, while the camp is closed in winter, the Camp Director will focus on building relationships with churches, partners, key constituents, and potential groups. This includes giving presentations, networking, and promoting the ministry to expand the camp’s reach. During the active camp season, the Camp Director will oversee day-to-day operations of the camp, providing leadership to staff and volunteers, maintaining consistent policies and processes, and ensuring campers and guests experience Christ-centered hospitality, fellowship, and growth in a residential camp and retreat atmosphere. This is a management AND hands-on position, requiring the ability to oversee personnel while also working alongside the team in various operational areas.
Qualifications Be a dedicated Christian exemplifying a life that follows Jesus. Agreement with CSC statement of faith and policies. Working knowledge of how a Christian camp functions and an overall understanding of the Christian camp environment. Ability to relate to and work well with people of all ages. Highly motivated, self-starter, and well organized. Supervisory skills to lead staff and volunteers effectively. Previous management experience in a Christian camp setting preferred.
General Responsibilities Implement and advance the vision and mission of Cedar Springs Camp and Cedar Camps as a whole. Provide leadership and oversight of facilities, personnel, and daily operations. Recruit, retain, and develop staff to ensure smooth operations and spiritual/professional growth. During winter closure, focus on outreach—building relationships with churches, partners, and potential groups, and representing CSC through presentations and networking. Intentionally expand the camp’s reach by marketing its facilities and programs, increasing guest and camper usage. Evaluate and improve camp systems, processes, and programming to maximize mission effectiveness. Oversee and enhance the overall camper/guest experience in alignment with CSC’s mission. Serve hands-on in various areas (recreation, housekeeping, maintenance, food service, program, guest services, etc.) as needed. Attend staff meetings and meet regularly with the Executive Director for updates and accountability. Pursue continuing education opportunities annually (e.g., CCCA sectional as feasible). Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Note: This position is subject to regular performance reviews, and the job description may be modified by the Executive Director to better serve the needs of guests and further the mission of CSC.
