We are looking to add an exceptional Camp Director to our growing team and the right person will be living a life committed to Jesus Christ, be experienced in living and leading within a close knit community, and will have a broad understanding of what excellent programing and camp implementation looks like.

This is a director level position with director level responsibility while working within Executive accountability and oversight. This position will be responsible for developing departmental objectives with the Executive Director and turning those into measurable goals managed to a time line. The Camp Director will oversee the Program Manager and On-site Administrator, and be responsible for hiring and managing the 105 seasonal summer staff. Authority to accomplish this job is given by the Executive Director. The following are areas of authority are entrusted to this position.
• Authority to hire seasonal summer staff, boat drivers, and volunteer cooks and to release them from service.
• Authority to delegate tasks to Program and Administrative team.
• Authority to direct, correct, and inspect the work of Program Manager and On-site Administrator.
• Authority to develop the program and curriculum for summer program and retreats. (This includes all operational departments including nurses station, barn, craft shop, chapel, etc…)
• Authority to purchase and delegate purchases within approved budget and up to a certain amount.
• Authority to sign checks according to approved financial protocol and guidelines.
• Authority to contract chapel speakers as well as redirect them if the content does match program objectives.
• Authority to operate camp operations according to county health inspection standards as well as third party accreditation standards.
• Authority to suspend any camp activity to ensure the facility safety of guests and staff. Whenever possible this should be done in consultation with Executive Director.
• Authority over staff at every level to uphold the staff manual and to meet ministry objectives as laid out by Executive Director.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Below are the primary and secondary responsibilities in this position.
Primary
• Responsible for developing camp objectives with the Executive Director and meeting those objectives through camp operations.
• Responsible for maintaining a camp wide focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ensuring that the core values of Camp Lurecrest and the statement of faith is honored and propagated through programing.
• Responsible for adjusting and upholding safety standards across camp.
• Responsible for the marketing and communication about camp with camp families and summer staff.
• Responsible for maintaining good parent communication during the week of camp and making sure parents are informed about any major issues prior to the return of their campers.
• Responsible for real-time communication with Executive Director, Relationship Manager, Facilities Director, Program Manager, and On-stie Administrator about adjustments to schedules, staffing needs, camper incidents, and upcoming needs.
• Responsible for providing direction in the following departmental areas: aquatics, program, media team, kitchen, worship, craft shop, nurses, on-site administration, OA, CTs, and counselors.
• Responsible for overseeing camper arrival/ departure and check-in/ check-out process.
• Responsible for staying within assigned budget parameters and submitting receipts on the day of purchases.
• Responsible for developing objective, data-driven measures of camper, staff, and volunteer experience.
• Responsible for updates to the summer staff handbook and ensuring all policies are carried out.
Secondary
• Responsible to maintain up to date knowledge of Industry standards and state/ county expectations.
• Responsible for directing but also engaging in camp programing through camper interaction, staff one on ones, and counselor lunches.
• Responsible for intervening in any camper, staff, or facility issue that could hurt the mission.
• Responsible for communicating facilities issues in real time to Facilities Director and ensuring that issues putting campers at risk are adjusted for camper safety and a timeline for repairs is agreed upon.
• Responsible for contributing to facilities preparation for summer, especially those areas overlapping responsibility.
• Responsible for following up on continuing education opportunities.

INDICATORS OF SUCCESS
• Campers and staff respond to the Gospel with genuine life change
• High return rate of campers (70%+) and high return rate of staff (60%+).
• New program options each year while maintaining program budget.
• Camp responds to emergency according to the processes laid out in the handbook.
• Increased camper registration numbers/ waitlist and increased staff applications.
• Clear measurable objects are set for staff and they exceed the standards.
• Ahead of staffing shortages, ready with alternate plans to ensure that camp operations are carried out well without impact to campers.
• No rushed summer preparation but rather an even pace for summer prep with checklists and deadlines.
• Under budget
• No one is surprised by gaps, changes in schedules, or technical issues that might affect operations. Communication is happening before issues arise.
• Prioritizing learning over knowing. Demonstrating a teachable spirit and willingness to apply instruction from leadership/peers and learn from experience.
THINGS TO AVOID
• Becoming isolated or aloof from coworkers or summer staff: Stay connected and intentionally build bridges towards other departments, stay accountable.
• Ignoring eyesores, staff negligence and safety hazards: Pick up trash, don’t walk past five-minute corrections/ fixes, and keep fresh eyes for a camper parent perspective.
• Overspending/ using budget too quickly into the season.
• Under communicating: Communicate clearly and frequently with staff team.
• Spiritual apathy: Stay connected to Christian community and put faith into practice daily.
• Injury and risk: Do things the right way and bring others in to double check your work.
• Pride and overconfidence: Don’t assume, listen to others perspective and willingly accept opportunities to stay humble.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Five years experience in full-time camp or ministry context
• Knowledge of professional camp standards and capability to replicate those standards.
• Valid Driver’s License and able to safely drive 15 passenger van.
• Five years experience speaking, writing curriculum, and leading formal discipleship.
• Competent in creating and posting on social media.
• Able to lift 50lbs and walk 8 miles.
• Able to give detailed instruction and manage over 100 individuals towards a common goal.
• Knowledge of Google Suite, Camp Registration Software, and Ministry Safe. Capable of learning new systems and using new technology.

Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in camp-related field (Bible, psychology, education, outdoor leadership, etc…)
• Graduate degree in ministry or camp related field.
• 5 years’ experience in full-time camp or para-church ministry.
• Certification as ACA Camp Director
• ACCT Level II, ACA LGI,
• Published devotional material or teaching videos.
• Knowledge of Camp Lurecrest and history as former staffer/ camper.

COMPENSATION
$40,000-60,000
