Caretaker Job Description Cowboy’s Rest Christian Camp & Retreat Center 1/2025 Commitment: 6 months, then reassess. Compensation: $33,000 salary (possibly more depending on abilities of applicant) plus onsite housing/electrical/water & septic, Internet. Housing: Furnished Cabin or single-wide, might occasionally have to move depending on camper needs. Hours: 50 hours/week average, varied based on needs of facility during hours of the day and camp, retreat, or off-seasons. Mid-week in off-season go to town for supplies, staff meeting, and fellowship (see friends to combat the isolation). Spirituality: Attend a church weekly. Discipleship under Senior Staff weekly. Devotions on your own daily. Responsibilities: Water – keep the water tanks full (well is powered by solar and generator). Treat tanks with bleach January and July. Septic – Address any issues and fix as needed, apply monthly treatments, yearly have one tank pumped. Electrical – maintain generators and solar/PV systems and batteries for optimal production, maintain all electrical components on site, Fix any electrical issues (within abilities; recommend professional help when needed). Equipment/Machinery – maintain all generators (service every 500 hours of use), tractors, vehicles (service every 4000 miles), and small engines. Maintain all trailers (RV’s included) for proper function (lights, grease points, fit for purpose). Buildings – maintain all buildings, inside and out, paint/stain as needed and tri-yearly schedule, maintain appliances (clean/service regularly). Fences - Maintain all exterior (641 acres) and interior fences, wire and wood. Stain as needed. Activities Areas – maintain Challenge Course, Climbing wall, Water slide, Waterfront/reservoir, Paintball, Miniature golf course, Playground, Park, Outdoor Chapel. Snow removal – clear driveway to the mine road and campus roads, remove snow from against doors (especially north-facing) and walls (Lodge, Residence, north faces, HBC) and all decks. Driveway and road maintenance – keep smooth and free of ruts Cattle – December through March feed daily. 1 large round bale of hay to cows, steers/heifers as needed. Move cattle to various fenced areas as needed. Firewood – Cut 6 cords in October/November for personal and camp use. Trees are on site. Retreats/Camps Electricity – Turn generator on at 5 am, off at 11 pm (share the turn-off time with summer staff). Retreats – help with food & supplies shopping, cooking, dishes, cleaning, take trash out. Lawn Care – May-October mow lawns and weed whip near buildings/wood fences weekly. Keep lawns clear of debris/branches. Fill rodent holes. Maintain sprinkler/drip systems, winterize in October. Winterizing – In October winterize sprinklers, bathhouses, kitchen trailer, infirmary, Cougar cabin, VIP cabin; small engines fuel/carburetors. Pest Control – maintain traps for mice/rodents in buildings and equipment. Spray/fog lodgings bi-weekly for bugs.
