We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic and a desire to live and work in a close community to serve in the much-needed role of Grounds Technician. COMMUNITY The makeup of our community determines a large part of what it is like to live and work here. We have about 80 people who live on-site year round, comprised of: full-time staff, seasonal staff, gap year students, and families. Glorieta Camps is a beautiful place with many natural resources.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Grounds Technician
Department: Grounds
Reports To: Grounds Manager

Job Purpose: Work as part of a team to fulfill our mission and prevent the grounds of Glorieta from being a distraction to the guests’ experience. This includes working towards creating functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing grounds while preserving the natural beauty of the high desert environment. This role will be specifically taking responsibility for caring for the grounds and landscape under direction from the Grounds Manager.

Overall Responsibility
Help maintain the grounds of Glorieta through various methods including but not limited to:
Mowing, blowing, weed eating and abatement, applying pesticides, fertilizing, felling trees, pruning, digging, and trenching
Perform road repairs, drainage, and irrigation system maintenance and installation
Trash management, snow clearing, helping with outdoor projects, cutting, hauling, and splitting firewood
Assist with other departments, when needed, be on-call to help with guest needs, and snow plowing, and ensuring a positive guest experience
Learn tasks in tradecrafts such as sodding, landscaping, and irrigation systems

Other Duties of ALL Staff: We operate year-round, but the vast majority of our guests are here in the summer months. Serving guests is our number one priority, and therefore ALL staff must participate in guest service in some capacity. There are often groups here on weekends and evenings. All staff members will be required to work certain weekends as needed.

Character, Education, Abilities, Skills, Experience:
The “ideal” candidate will have:
Ability to communicate well with team members, staff, and guests
A strong desire to learn new things
A strong sense of self-motivation and work ethic
A personal relationship with Christ that permeates all aspects of his/her life
Willingness to perform routine tasks regularly and on time, with deadlines weekly and monthly
Have a natural ability or strong desire for organization
Willingness to perform tasks alone or in a group as well as lead large groups in projects
At least one year of experience on a grounds, landscape, or similar crew preferred
Experience operating heavy machines and equipment preferred (chainsaw, power tools, tractor, skid steer, snow plow)
Proven ability to work with your hands to perform maintenance-type duties

Work Context: This job will be performed primarily on location at Glorieta Camps in Glorieta and will require you to live onsite.
Travel: Possible infrequent travel to workshops and training.
Physical Demands: This job requires the ability to lift heavy loads, walk all over the property and facilities, stand for a lengthy period of time, and bend and squat to install or service equipment. Be willing to get your hands dirty. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Most work will be done throughout campus, mostly outdoors. This may include working in inclement weather conditions throughout the year.
Training: Grounds employees will be given the opportunity for improvement through
appropriate training.
Compensation: $14.03 Hourly, onsite housing including utilities, $0 premium/deductible health coverage, 401(k) retirement package after one year, and paid vacation time. See HR and/or potential supervisor for details. Please note this is considered an entry-level position.
