FOOD SERVICE MANAGER
Staff Purpose: The Food Service Manager seeks to lead and serve as a faithful part of God’s work in and through the ministry of Glen Lake. The Food Service Manager serves on a ministry team dedicated and committed to a team approach to the ministry entrusted to us.
Job Summary: The Food Service Manager seeks to provide expertise in the field of hospitality. The Food Service Manager reports to the Guest Services Director in order to provide safe, fun, and Christ-centered camp experiences.
Duties: (include but not limited to:)
• Maintain a high quality food service operation through continuing education, training and professional association in the food service industry.
• Maintain systematic purchasing procedures, quality control, accurate inventories, and sound record keeping.
• Prepare and control food service budget, plan the menus, and maintain sanitary conditions that comply with health and safety standards.
• Supervise all food service personnel to ensure that nutritious meals are served at the designated times, and that dining hall, kitchen porches and trash areas are prepared, properly cleaned and maintained.
• Ensure proper and efficient staff assignments are made for food serving and cleaning the dining hall, kitchen and porches.
• Work with Guest Services Staff to ensure any adjustments needed are made for schedules, attendance, & menus.
• Work with Guest Services to maintain regular and preventative maintenance program for entire food service operation including building and equipment.
• Keep abreast of new and better ways of cleaning and making the total dining experience a pleasure for our guests.
• Ensure snacks for retreats/camps/meetings are prepared and delivered/picked up timely.
• Be involved in on-going education opportunities as deemed necessary by supervisor.
• Accept other related assignments as given by supervisor.
• Oversee the inventory and ordering of food, equipment, and supplies and arrange for the routine maintenance, sanitation, and upkeep of the camp kitchen, its equipment, and facilities. Maintain inventory of food and household supplies.
• Promote practices that seek to reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as much as possible.
• Monitor employee performance and training.
• Budget and capital development planning
• Attend staff meetings, special celebrations, or guest services

Required qualifications:

• An active and growing faith in Jesus Christ, with a heart for ministry
• Integrity, consistent work ethic, and a proven success in leadership at a Christian camp or similar organization
• Interpersonal communication and organizational skills
• A team-oriented servant attitude and the ability to relate well with others
• The ability to handle conflict in a respectful and professional manner
• Must hold current certification or licensure for operating a kitchen in the camp’s jurisdiction.
• Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices is essential
• Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.


Preferred qualifications:
• 2-5 years experience in food service or Christian camping
