Camp Challenge Executive Director Job Description

Camp Challenge Mission -

Camp Challenge’s mission is to develop followers of and leaders for Jesus Christ by encouraging disconnection from everyday distraction and reconnection to God through His creation. This mission is accomplished by offering summer camp adventures for students and maintaining safe and inviting spaces for similarly purposed groups to use throughout the year.

Job Summary -

Camp Challenge is seeking a full-time year-round Executive Director to join our staff. The person in this position will play a crucial role in the leadership of Camp Challenge as we move into the future. The ideal candidate will not view their work simply as a “job” but rather as a mission field experience where being a steward of Camp Challenge is an immersive lifestyle choice. This position will report to the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities -

Board Governance – in partnership with the board of directors, establish the vision and core values necessary to execute the mission of Camp Challenge, including:
Strategic planning
Financial planning and operating budget
Policies and Procedures
Board meetings and content

Communication and Marketing – promotion of camp mission, facilities and programs through a variety of channels and an ability to effectively communicate with various constituents including:
Church partners and leaders
Donors
Staff - full, part-time and seasonal staff
Program directors and volunteers
Community organizations, retreat groups and private rentals
Parents and students

Operations – implementation of the camp’s mission and strategic plan, operating within the approved budget, by directly managing, monitoring or overseeing the following:
Summer and seasonal camp operations and programming
Private rental use including hosting and accommodations
Buildings and grounds, housekeeping, and food service
Donor relations and fundraising campaigns
Hiring and developing of staff, program directors, and volunteers
Recruiting and hosting volunteerism or work groups
Administration including office management and bookkeeping

Effectively and professionally communicates with all people who come into contact with Camp Challenge
Can delegate responsibilities to other staff members and lead a team
Committed to doing everything necessary to achieve great summer camp and retreat group experiences, including sharing heavy workload, long hours, and extra responsibilities in the weeks leading up to events

Experience:

The search committee recognizes that varied experience is an asset, and a strong candidate could enter the process with a surprising vocational background. Knowing the needs of Camp Challenge for the present and future, we believe the following are likely success indicators, but acknowledge they are not all-inclusive and that one person may not possess all. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

Work experience in outdoor ministry or leadership
Work experience in church ministry or leadership
Marketing and communications experience
Building new partnerships and strengthening old ones with individuals, groups, churches, and not-for-profits

Compensation:
Salary
Housing, utilities, and internet
Meals during the summer season
Travel expense reimbursement
