College Summer Staff

Indian Lake Nazarene Camp (ILNC) is offering a seasonal recreation/counselor position during the summer of 2023. ILNC is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity owned by the Michigan District Church of the Nazarene and is the sole employer. The summer staff program is designed to provide college students opportunities to minister at ILNC by being a part of the summer ministry team during the Michigan District’s children’s, youth and family camps.

Dates of Employment: The employment period is June 5, 2023 through July 28, 2023.

Compensation: Indian Lake Nazarene Camp (Employer) will provide a stipend of $250 per week, plus lodging and meals. An additional $500 will be credited to the employee’s Olivet Nazarene University student account as a scholarship from ILNC, if the entire eight weeks of employment are satisfactorily completed. Upon successful completion of the entire term of the assignment, ONU will also provide a $1,000 scholarship, contingent upon maintaining ONU’s minimum grade-point average requirement. Scholarships will be credited at 50% ($750) per semester. If the employee does not enroll or return to ONU, the unused portion of the scholarship is forfeited. Returning employees will receive a bonus of $250 to the ONU portion of their scholarship, credited at 50% per semester. Full-time students at institutions other than ONU will receive only the $500 scholarship from ILNC.

Time Off: The employee will be off duty on the following dates: June 10-11, June 17-18, June 24, June 29-30, July 3-4, July 8-9, and July 23. Off-duty time typically begins at the conclusion of debriefing sessions on the last days of camps and ends at 9:00 pm on the nights before the upcoming camps. The employee is required to work on the following weekend dates: June 25, July 1-2, July 15-16, July 22.

Qualifications: All summer-camp employees must fulfill the requirements of Michigan state licensing regulations. Therefore, employment is contingent upon supplying three character references, passing a criminal background check, and (if over 21) clearing the central child abuse/neglect registry check in the state of legal residence. Furthermore, since college summer staff provide ministerial services, they must be able to give verbal testimony of and evidence a lifestyle consistent with receiving Jesus Christ as their personal savior and commitment to following His example and teachings.
