Waterfront Staff
We are looking for female waterfront staff who are either certified lifeguards or experienced ski boat drivers or both, and who have some skills to teach one or more of our waterfront activities, which include canoeing, kayaking, sailing, water skiing, fishing, swimming, and snorkeling. If not currently lifeguard certified, we will reimburse for certification costs upon successful completion of a lifeguarding course.
Purpose: Help run a safe waterfront so that we can fulfill our mission: The mission of Camp Cherith is to help children and youth put Christ in every phase of life, to form healthy relationships, and to develop positive feelings about themselves. Camp Cherith also assists adults in understanding children and their development in order to be able to minister more effectively to them.
Job Summary The Waterfront Assistant will assist the Waterfront Director with all aspects of the Waterfront Activities and Site during a camp session, including camper safety, equipment safety and security, site appearance. They will be responsible for the general safety and well-being of campers and staff while at the waterfront. All waterfront staff will model love, service, loyalty, dependability, flexibility, and a devotion to Jesus Christ.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Lifeguarding, boat driving, or teaching activities, as assigned by waterfront director Responsible for appearance and safety of the waterfront area – mowing Ensure the waterfront area, equipment shed and outhouse area are clean, organized, and kept free from litter. Assisting with camp programs, and activities and being on-time and present for all assigned activities, including staff morning bible study and prayer. Being able and willing to treat each camper, staff person, and peers with respect and dignity at all times, handling conflicts with appropriate responses. As a member of the camp Support Staff, assist in planning the weekly worship service Serve as a Morning Watch partner, guiding bible study and prayer with campers Communicate openly with Waterfront Director any issues Know, enforce, and follow all emergency, safety and policy rules and procedures associated with the camp and all program areas. Perform other duties, not listed herein, as directed by the Division or Camp Director(s).
Qualifications Current Lifeguard certification Current First Aid and CPR certification Ability to operate motorboats Experience working with groups of school age children Willingness to serve with flexibility and enthusiasm as a member of a team and the ability to work effectively with little direct supervision. Must pass North Central Camp Cherith’s criminal background check standards Must agree with North Central’s Camp Cherith’s Statement of Faith and be able to articulate the salvation message to campers. Must abide by the personal conduct code set out in Employee Handbook.
Physical Abilities Physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities that include, but are not limited to, canoeing, swimming, boating, sailing, paddle boarding, operating motorboats, fishing, waterskiing. Position will require ability to stand outside for 6 hours per day. Requires ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and lift on daily basis 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Exposure to insects, bees, snakes, rodents, ticks, weather extremes, cleaning chemicals.
