Position Description: Activities Supervisor

Reports to: Director of Adult & Family Ministries

FLSA Status: Full Time; Non-exempt

Job Summary
Responsible for all recreational activities related to Hume sponsored Youth Camps, Adult Retreats, Guest Groups and any other organized activities associated with Hume Lake Christian Camps, on and off the property. Maintain safety standards, staff hiring, training, scheduling and oversight of all activities. Provide direct leadership for the Aquatics and High Adventure Coordinators.

Organizational Strategy
At Hume Lake, the Activities Department is part of the Program Department.

The Activities Supervisor will:

Dream, research, develop and oversee the building and implementation of new activities and adventure elements for camps and retreats with the Activities Department, Camp directors, other camps, etc.
Help realize the vision and direction for Hume Activities Department
Provide training and integration across all Hume camps in relation to Activities
Oversight and evaluation of risk and safety concerns and regulations for activities
Oversight and responsible for upkeep of current activities to a high level of excellence and safety
Supervise and provide direction of Activities Staff workload and schedule
Maintain Outfitting and Guiding Permits with the Forest Service, licensing for watercraft and quarterly usage reports
Manage the annual Activities Budget for both major projects and daily operations
Oversee the purchasing of supplies and equipment necessary for day to day operations of the Activities Department
Oversee and maintain equipment for the seasonal operations of:
Ark - game room and ark recreation area
High Adventure Courses and Elements
Skate Park
Spring and Fall seasonal activities:
Rifles & Shotguns, Archery, Hatchets, Paintball, Archery Tag, etc.
Winter Activities:
Tube run, Snow blowing, Ice Rink, Escape Room, Snowboard runs, etc.

Hire, train and supervise all Activities Staff including full time, seasonal and weekend workers
Mentor and invest in all full time and part time Activities Staff
In conjunction with the Aquatics Coordinator and High Adventure coordinator, oversee hiring of summer Lifeguards, High Adventure Guides (HAG’s), and weekend staff activity positions
Oversee all Activities Summer staff including HAG’s, Lifeguards, Archery, Paintball & Skate Park
Effectively enable staff so they can take action on behalf of the organization by:
Transmitting the organization’s values, vision and direction
Engaging people in the mission of the Organization
Providing direction and resources, removing barriers and helping develop people skills; articulating expectations and clarifying roles and relationships;
Encouraging staff to ask strategic questions to ensure quality decision-making
Anticipating conflicts and facilitating resolution
Engaging people in process as well as tasks; encouraging people to use their expertise, practice their authority, and accept responsibility
Modeling behavior and coaching people to success

General Qualifications
Evidenced commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to share the knowledge of Jesus Christ with others
Ability to provide spiritual direction to activities staff
Agree with our Statement of Belief and abide by our Code of Conduct (see Employee Handbook)
Commitment to excellence and attention to detail
Manage camp resources with biblical view toward stewardship
Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
At least 25 years old with no less than 4 years in related ministry or field.

Specific Qualifications
Acquire and maintain certifications, training and or continued education pertinent to activities, facilities and equipment including
Challenge Course Levels 1 & 2 by an Association for Challenge Course Technologies (ACCT) certifying body.
Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facilities Operator Certification (2-day class)
CPR/First Aid
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal/relational skills.
Remain current in general office technology; computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and database management
Strong oral and written communications skills; effectively communicating in public forums
Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions
Perform other related duties and assignments as required; Hume Lake maintains the right to reassign or change duties as required
Proven ability to supervise and lead others

Desired Qualifications
Currently certified or willing to certify:
Challenge Course Manager
Lifeguard Certification
Lifeguard Instructor Certification
DMV Class B licensing

Physical Demands
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; may be on uneven or rugged terrain
Must be able to live and work in extreme weather conditions
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; increased amounts of weight may be required
Out-of-town and/or overnight travel may be required

Completion of Bachelor’s degree is preferred, and/or experience in a related field
