Equestrian Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications:
• Have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for sharing God’s love through everything you do
• Demonstrate a consistent walk with Christ
• Eager to know and love on the guests of this ministry as part of fulfilling the mission and vision of SCCC.
• Ability to be flexible and work with all staff, guests, agencies, etc.
• Have a desire and passion to work in adventure-based programming as part of SCC.
• Ability to express a contagious passion for Christian camping and related ministries
• Have experience with horses, riding, saddling, grooming, etc.
• Ability to demonstrate wisdom and discernment in decisions effecting personal and corporate safety
• Ability to work alone and with others
• Ability and enthusiasm to lead and assisting guests of all ages and riding abilities
• Ability to work in a physically demanding rugged mountain environment and lift a minimum of 50lbs
• Display good judgement with animal care and understand the importance of the tasks involved with caring for animals
• Will be required to acquire instructor certification (Level 1 Minimum) from the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) or equivalent within 1 year of employment.
• Display good management skills as related to leadership; setting priorities; short- and long-range planning; positive motivation of staff, volunteers, and guests; and administrative skills
• Have flexibility pertaining to work schedule and type of work
• Minimum age of 21

Job Description:
Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the equestrian program at Sacramento. This is not a job about horses, this is a job about people. The Equestrian Coordinator must be someone who is excited about sharing the love of Christ and who genuinely cares about and engages the people they come in contact with. Days are spent scheduling, organizing, and participating in activities; feeding, doctoring, and caring for a herd of 15-20 horses; maintaining equipment and trails; and managing assisting staff. The Equestrian Coordinator is also responsible for long-term planning for the program, pursuing outreach and advertising opportunities, and managing income and expenditures through donations and donor relations and evaluating and maintaining a budget.

Responsibilities Include:
• Provide safe and positive experiences for guests
• Gathering, feeding, and evaluating the health of a herd of 15-20 horses daily
• Conditioning and training horses and evaluating their performance
o Includes correcting bad behavior (if needed), teaching new skills, riding solo and with groups, and working with young horses
• Guiding and assisting guests of all ages and riding abilities through various equine activities
• Teaching basic western horsemanship skills and coaching riders along the trail and arena
• Caring for sick and injured animals
• Developing relationships with local animal care providers (veterinarians, farriers, dentists, etc.)
• Maintaining facilities, equipment, corrals, tack shed, fences, and trails
• Miscellaneous tasks such as forestry work, general vehicle maintenance, and taking pictures
• Operating a variety of heavy machinery as needed (backhoe, tractor, skid loader, dump truck, etc.)
• Managing and training summer staff and volunteers
• Follow safety standards as set by the American Camping Association, Certified Horsemanship Association, and Sacramento Camp and Conference Center
• Pursue certifications and training in different types of equine-related fields
• Assisting in other Sacramento operations as needed (housekeeping, washing dishes, etc.)
