Mechanical and Marine coordinator
Position Summary FULL TIME- HEALTH- MATCHING 401K-HOLIDAYS-VACATION On site housing with ongoing training opportunities and room to grow in the organization. Pay based on aptitude and experience.
Position Description Supervised by: Director of Operations Supervises: Crew staff, volunteers and contract labor as assigned Status: Ongoing, Full-time, Hourly Location: Campus by the Sea (Santa Catalina Island, CA)
To advance the purpose of Campus by the Sea, this position will support the ongoing operation of the camp, provide care and repair care for all vehicles and vessels, control the maintenance building (shop) and assist with land and sea facility needs as requested by Director of Operations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and implement a plan for equipment use and maintenance (including all vehicles, vessels, refrigeration systems, compressors, generators, and machinery) • Maintain the shop, paint shed, fuel storage and material yards in a manner consistent with best practice and highest standards • Oversee maintenance of marine related areas, including boats, moorings, floats, pier and hoist, headlines, ramps, and boat trailers • Assist with budget development and ordering supplies and equipment
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Operate CBS vehicles and vessels in support of guest activities and ongoing operations • Assist in training other camp staff in proper operation of vehicles and vessels • Assist in all projects associated with camp facilities, waterfront and infrastructure as directed • Assist with maintenance of utilities, including propane systems, water systems, electrical systems, sewage systems and fire suppression systems
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Annually affirm the Campus by the Sea Statement of Faith, Mission and Purpose • College degree, trade certification or equivalent experience • Good interpersonal and communication skills • Effective planning and organizational skills • Ability to take charge of tasks and work independently • Ability to develop procedures for work/tasks • Flexibility to work irregular and extended hours as required • Must be able to work in a multigenerational and multicultural environment and demonstrate willingness to contribute to positive community development • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to stand for long periods of time.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • 2 years lifeguard experience • Professional training and current Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructor (willingness to pursue education to become certified) • SCUBA Open Water Diver Certification (willingness to pursue education to become certified) • USCG OUPV License (6-Pack Captain’s License) • Working knowledge of automotive, electrical, heating, plumbing, and carpentry skills • Experience in operation of heavy equipment, welding, metal fabrication and power tools • Standard First Aid and CPR, adult & infant (willingness to pursue education to become certified) • Professional camping and/or ministry experience
