Program Challenge Course Manager
Purpose Statement: To develop and coordinate all ropes course elements and related activities/equipment to ARCG and ACCT standards offered.
Description of Duties • Maintain high and low elements with regular maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs • Maintain ropes log, safety reports, inventory, evaluations, and other position related paperwork in timely manner. • Arrange for annual inspections of Challenge Courses, ensuring compliance with ACCT • Obtain and/or maintain all annual certification and engage in continuing education necessary to meet the highest industry standards available. • Develop and maintain Training Manual, ensuring compliance with ACCT guidelines • Hire staff in collaboration with Outdoor Education/Program Manager (OE/PM) and Program Logistics Coordinator (PLC) • Train Naturalist and summer staff on facilitation and safety of high and low elements • Arrange annual facilitator certification of naturalist staff through approved PVM • Hold program staff/ropes course facilitators accountable for safe operating procedures • Responsible for regular safety training and documentation • Lead challenge course in services and co-facilitate staff development • Meet weekly with Programs Director • Take all challenge course related evening emergency calls via Radio or Phone when necessary • Program point person during ODE Cross Team Readiness Meetings and attend summer CTR Meetings • Program point person for Weekend, Corporate program, and Summer groups (shared with OE/PM and PLC) • Work within Program budget • Teach classes as needed Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities • Demonstrate effectiveness in developing a program curriculum according to guest learning outcomes. • Demonstrate experience in budget planning and management, equipment purchasing and maintenance. • Demonstrate leadership capabilities, risk management, and success in training and supervision of staff. • Demonstrate the ability to supervise people effectively in areas that are not your expertise-delegation. • Demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, lead and control program projects. • Demonstrate being knowledgeable in all aspects of Ropes Course options offered by ARCG.
Education: • 4-year degree or equivalent experience in a related field (Recreation, Education, Youth Camping Management). • Current Challenge Course Level 2 Practitioner and Course Manager Certifications, as set by Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), or equivalent. • CPR and First Aid Certified, Lifeguard Certified preferred • First Aid/CPR/AED and Lifeguard Instructor preferred
Requirement: • At least 1,000 hours of facilitation experience, 100 hours of challenge course training, 50 hours of training others, and 50 hours of inspections/building/repairs documented in a challenge course portfolio. • At least 2 years’ experience in Christian Camping with supervisory experience preferred. • Experience in Environmental/Outdoor Education/Adventure and Ropes Course Activities.
