Maranatha Camp - Head Cook
To glorify God by introducing people to Jesus as Savior, training them in Christian living, and sending them out to represent Christ to the world.
This position is responsible to fulfill the mission and vision of Maranatha Camp and Retreat Center through stewardship of the Maranatha Kitchen team and facility to serve our guests, as guided and directed by the Kitchen Manager. By running the kitchen for a portion of the day, you will enable staff and campers to be sustained here, which is a critical piece of enabling the ministry, time of reflection, and relationships that form the spiritually, mentally, and physically nourishing experience that is intended by Maranatha Camp.
Head cooks work in the kitchen to lead the preparation of food, and the maintenance of the other aspects of the kitchen, while ensuring adherence to food and workplace safety in all ongoing food operations, for their designated shifts. Head cooks must also foster the adequate training, wellbeing, work efficiency, servant-hearted attitudes, spiritual growth, and positive team relationships of the kitchen team and volunteers.
Accountable to the Kitchen Manager.
Works at least 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.
-Follows any directions given by Kitchen Manager
-Show up to work 15 minutes prior to the start of meal shifts (personal needs already taken care of, hair covered/tied back, apron on) and use this time to plan your shift and prepare to meet with and lead the kitchen team.
-Feed the guests and staff for designated meal shifts
-Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen throughout a shift
-Learn and remain steadfast in food safety and workplace safety principles on a personal and team-wide overseer level
-Oversee foodservice on the large scale, while also giving attention to details that affect experience of guests on an individual level, such as issues which affect only a few people, or guests who require special food
-Communicate with the Kitchen Manager about things that go right and things that go wrong (performance, time management, meal execution, employee issues, thefts, incidents, etc.)
-Learn to adjust and problem solve as circumstances require
-Be flexible while strategies, policies, instructions, and circumstances change depending on circumstances or new ideas
-Finish all tasks expected by Kitchen Manager before departing and releasing workers
-A cheerful willingness to work together with the entire kitchen team to find the best way to serve guests exceedingly well while also finding and refining adaptive methods that are sustainable and won’t burn out our team
-Passion to cook and serve all ages
-Capability in the preparation and cooking of food
-Comprehension and possession of a sense of urgency
-A spirit of power and authority in giving directions, encouraging hustle, and enforcing
-Ability to maintain a clean workspace
-Work ethic with high standards for integrity.
-Positive approach to training, development and team interaction
-Ability to lead a successful team by building an environment of trust, maintaining accountability, and seeking personal and team commitment to results
-Ability to adapt to customer and staff needs or unexpected setbacks
-Follow-up and follow through with discipline.
-Has either prior experience in foodservice, or has arranged special intake & training with the Kitchen Manager
-Ideally has completed a food safety education program
Lodging and Food plus $175/week
Time: Full-Time Seasonal
Salary: Paid - Must Raise Partial Support
