JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Rainier Maintenance

Department: Operations

Reports To: Gerry Hansen


Job Purpose

This position will oversee the physical care, maintenance, and appearance of the Black Diamond Camps @ Rainier campus to ensure guests experience a safe and welcoming environment. This person will need to exceed guest expectations of the overall maintenance, cleanliness, ambiance and beauty of the campsite.


Community

We have about 40 people who live on-site year round at our Auburn Facility, comprised of: full-time staff and families and interns. This position will be at our Rainier Facility, which is located more remotely up in the mountains, with the campus manager living on site as well. Retreat weekends will have more staff on site as well.


Overall Responsibility

Responsible for oversight, revision, and execution of preventative maintenance plan as they relate to general repairs, buildings, grounds, landscaping, vehicles, water system, equipment, roads, forestry, telecommunications, electric, gas utilities, HVAC and general housekeeping. This position will be responsible for reporting any facility needs and/or repairs that need to be made to the Director of Operations.

Maintain current State of Washington Water Operator Certification, or pass the test to have the Water Operator Certification within 15 months of hiring. Maintains positive working relationship with National Forest Service personnel.



Responsible for property maintenance and for snow removal (of decks, walks, parking lots and roads) in the winters. Works both indoors and outdoors in warm, cold, snowy and rainy weather. Must be able to do more strenuous activities as well as working with heavy equipment.



Maintains all State and local permits and licenses and inspections needed to operate the campus.



Inspects facilities, prioritizes necessary repairs, improvements and preventive maintenance; follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk and enhance the safety of employees and visitors; checks property and grounds for unsafe conditions, and clears hazards; reports safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities.




• Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance, preventive maintenance, component replacement and repair tasks, including carpentry, HVAC, sheetrock, roofing, painting, mechanical, and basic non-licensed electrical and plumbing work; cleans and maintains camp kitchen equipment.

• Works on assigned projects, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience and individual skills; notifies supervisor of repair problems beyond the scope of authority and skill to repair.

• Prioritizes work requests; identifies material and equipment needs, organizes supplies and equipment, and documents the work performed.

• Inspects and maintains water tanks, cisterns and pumps for water system

• Inspects and maintains pool and aquatic facility management program

• Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations.

• Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and small tools for proper operating condition; completes minor repairs on equipment as needed.

• Operates vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.

• Performs specialized seasonal work including swimming pool maintenance in the summer as well as winterization in the fall; maintains campgrounds, cleans up trash and debris, trims trees and shrubs, loads and hauls materials.

• Removes snow and ice from roads and sidewalks using tractor, shovel and snow blower; performs maintenance and repair on snow and ice removal equipment.

• Assist with setup and teardown for special events, and other tasks as directed.

• Completes daily work log, incident and accident reports, and requisitions for supplies and materials to the Director of Operations.

• Responds as directed to perform emergency cleaning and repair work as required.

• Perform any other duties that are assigned by the Director of Operations.




Other Duties of ALL Black Diamond Camps

We operate year-round. We have guests on the premises almost every day of the year. Serving guests is our number one priority, and therefore ALL staff must participate in guest service in some capacity. Tasks may include cooking, cleaning, facilitating group activities, running retail locations, maintenance of camp property, and work projects as needed. There are often groups here on weekends, and all staff members will be required to work certain weekends as needed to meet the guest needs.

The “ideal” candidate will have:



Ability to communicate well with team members, staff, and guests





Ability to manage and work beside your peers, Black Diamond Camps full time staff, interns, and summer staff.





Have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, typing, basic math, basic computer functions, organization, and be detailed oriented.





A strong desire to learn new things quickly and with little supervision.





A strong sense of self-motivation





A personal relationship with Christ that permeates all aspects of his/her life





Previous experience in any of the duties listed is preferred





Good work ethic





Willingness to perform routine tasks regularly and on time, with deadlines weekly and monthly for most tasks.

Work Context: This job will be performed primarily on location at the Enumclaw, WA location

Travel: Possible infrequent travel to workshop trainings.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 60 lbs, hike, stand all day, bend, squat, be on hands and knees, ability to do maintenance repairs all day, climb stairs, and be willing to get your hands dirty.


Work Environment: Most work will be done throughout campus, including indoors and outdoors. This may include working in inclement weather conditions throughout the year.
