JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Grounds

Department: Operations

Reports To: Gerry Hansen


Job Purpose

This position will oversee the physical care, maintenance, and appearance of Black Diamond Camps to ensure guests experience a safe and welcoming environment. This person will work with the team to exceed guest expectations of the overall maintenance, cleanliness, ambiance and beauty of the campsite.


Community

We have about 40 people who live on-site year round at our Auburn Facility, comprised of: full-time staff and families and interns.

Overall Responsibility

Perform groundskeeping and building maintenance duties.

Cut lawn using hand, power or riding mower (as needed), and trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.

Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.

Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and others.

Cut and split fire wood.

Pick up brush and limbs

Chip limbs .

Apply fertilizer to ground to enhance growth.

Shovel snow from walkways and sprinkle ice down to keep people from falling.

Blow walkway of debris.

Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.

Trim shrubs and pull weeds.

Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in groundskeeping.

Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.

Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer.

Must have experience operating equipment, chainsaws weed eaters, trimers and other equipment used in landscaping.

Perform any other duties that are assigned by the Site Director or Director of Operations.


Other Duties of ALL Black Diamond Camps

We operate year-round. We have guests on the premises almost every day of the year. Serving guests is our number one priority, and therefore ALL staff must participate in guest service in some capacity. Tasks may include cooking, cleaning, facilitating group activities, running retail locations, maintenance of camp property, and work projects as needed. There are often groups here on weekends, and all staff members will be required to work certain weekends as needed to meet the guest needs.


Character, Education, Abilities, Skills, Experience:

The “ideal” candidate will have:



Ability to communicate well with team members, staff, and guests





Ability to manage and work beside your peers, Black Diamond Camps full time staff, interns, and summer staff.





Have proficiency in operating heavy equipment and grounds equipment.





A strong desire to learn new things quickly and with little supervision.





A strong sense of self-motivation





A personal relationship with Christ that permeates all aspects of his/her life





Previous experience in any of the duties listed is preferred





Good work ethic





Willingness to perform routine tasks regularly and on time, with deadlines weekly and monthly for most tasks.





Have a natural ability or strong desire for organization





Willingness to perform many tasks alone





An eye for things that need done and how to make them more excellent





Passion for fixing things, problem solving, making things beautiful, leading by serving, stewardship





Attitude of service, enthusiasm, taking initiative, willingness to learn, integrity, and flexibility




Work Context: This job will be performed primarily on location at the Auburn, WA location

Travel: Possible infrequent travel to workshop trainings.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 60 lbs, sit in office, hike, stand all day, bend, squat, be on hands and knees, ability to do maintenance repairs all day, climb stairs, and be willing to get your hands dirty.


Work Environment: Most work will be done throughout campus, including indoors and outdoors. This may include working in inclement weather conditions throughout the year.


Compensation: Salary, on­site housing, medical insurance, 401(k) retirement package after one year, and paid vacation time. See HR and/or potential supervisor for details.
