Apprentice Positions 2020-2021
Culture: Apprentice positions at Frontier Cove are designed to give applicants real responsibility in real, needed positions. Apprentices are expected to serve the Lord wholeheartedly while upholding and furthering the Mission, Vision and Values of New Life Ranch. As valued members of the Cove community, these seasonal staff members will be cared for and led by the full-time staff and families with the end goal of “launching Christlike leaders to change the world.”
Commitment: May 12th, 2020 to August 8th, 2021
Compensation: $950 per month salary for college graduates, $900 per month for non-graduates. 2nd year apprentices receive raises of $50 per month. In addition, apprentices may also raise missionary support through NLR and pick up hourly work at camp (during off-times) if they so choose. Shared housing with other apprentices is provided. Many meals are provided through the camp dining hall and other community events.
Program: In order to more effectively prepare our seasonal staff to be launched, each person will participate in a development program we have created to focus on growth in the NLR core leadership competencies.
While many of these may be reached through the performing of job functions, Personal Faith and Self Leadership will be the focus of this Seasonal Staff Development Program. We will encourage growth in these competencies through Bible Study, Family Dinners, Living in Community, and Mentor Pairings, etc.
The Activities Apprentice will be responsible for hiring and managing the hourly activity team throughout retreat season and summer activity staff during summer camps. During the year, they will work directly with our retreat group leaders to schedule and staff activities for all of our retreat groups. The Activities Apprentice oversees every activity area at NLR Frontier Cove; including activities such as the Ropes Course, Go Karts, Target Sports and Aquatics. This includes maintaining and growing current and future activity areas. They will also be a part of our weekend hosting & kitchen rotation.
The Grounds Apprentice will report directly to the Maintenance Coordinator. They will be responsible for maintaining the grounds to look aesthetically pleasing to our guests. This includes, but is not exclusively limited to, mowing, weed eating, blowing sidewalks/decks/etc., weeding flower beds, layout, design and installation of plant material in flower beds, leaf removal, maintaining firewood at the appropriate sites as well as working with our Building Maintenance team to assist them with routine maintenance items. They will work with our Summer Staff and assist the Grounds Manager and/or Maintenance Coordinator in the managing of the Nehi program for the Maintenance Department during summer. They will also be a part of our weekend hosting & kitchen rotation during retreat seasons.
The Maintenance Apprentice will report directly to the Maintenance Coordinator. They will be responsible for assisting the Building Maintenance Managers in the routine maintenance of all FC buildings/assets. This includes, but is not exclusively limited to, projects such as changing out of a/c filters, replacement of light bulbs, replacement of batteries in smoke detectors, assisting in building projects, painting, Shop organization, weekly Shop cleanup, etc. as well as working with the Grounds Apprentice from time to time as the need arises. They will assist in the management of the Summer Staff as it relates to running the Nehi Program for the Maintenance Department. They will also be a part of our weekend hosting & kitchen rotation during retreat seasons.
?The Retreats Apprentice will work directly with our retreat group leaders to coordinate and finalize details leading up to each retreat. Along with the Retreats Manager, they will create master schedules once a month for the hosting team to reference while they host. They will oversee and ensure that all meeting spaces are set up, organized, and ready to use for every retreat group coming to NLR. The Retreats Apprentice will also be the main contact for each of our Full Time Ministry Guests, working with each guest in order to provide a restful and hospitable experience. At least 2 weekends per month, they will serve as a secondary retreat host, with the goal to become independent in hosting on their own by the second semester. ?
Retail & Administration Apprentice
This position will work closely with our Retail team to manage the onsite camp store - the Canteen. The Canteen is an important part of our ministry as it helps fund camper scholarships and other improvements to camp. Job responsibilities will include product design, inventory management, financial controls and store staff supervision. In addition to store management, this apprentice position also serves in our main office by assisting with guest reception, mail and office management.
The Housekeeping Apprentice will report directly to the Maintenance Coordinator. They will be responsible for hiring and managing the FC hourly housekeeping team throughout the year and the summer housekeeping staff during summer camps. The Housekeeping Apprentice will oversee and ensure that their staff has all cabins, motels, meeting rooms, and public areas clean and presentable prior to guest arrival each week/weekend. This will include scheduling staff, placing product orders, and writing out cleaning lists as needed. They will oversee and respond to all lost and found requests for FC throughout the year. They will also be a part of our weekend hosting & kitchen rotation.
Time: Full-Time Seasonal
