Assistant Director of Program and Ministry
Reports To: Bradley Doherty, Director of Program and Ministry
Supervises: Summer camp staff, season staff and camp volunteers
Requirements: Preferred college graduate with a degree in education, outdoor recreation, or youth ministry (or equivalent in experience).
About Lakeview Methodist Conference Center: Located in the Piney Woods of East Texas, Lakeview was established in 1947 as the site for a camping ministry of the Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Lakeview Methodist Conference Center has been hosting life-changing camps for more than 70 years. Generations of campers, from the Texas Annual Conference District Summer Camps, Choir Camp, Fish Camp, United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men and more have all made wonderful memories at Lakeview and return year after year to make more. Lakeview offers fun-filled, life-changing experiences through programming, retreats, conferences, outdoor education, team building programs, and other avenues. Each day, our team works to provide an enjoyable experience for all our guests. Our environment is unique, consisting of more than 1,300 acres of pure bliss. We are located outside of Palestine, Texas.
General Responsibilities: Help develop Lakeview's year round programming, assisting in registration, camper recruitment, staff recruitment, training and supervision, volunteer training, and supervising activities. Helps maintain activity areas that include rope course, pool, water front, shooting, archery, skeet shooting and more. Trains and assists groups with AVL needs. Positively represents Christ and Lakeview in interactions with parents and visitors. Needs to keeps accurate records and reports as required by the Director of Program and Ministry and any relevant regulating agency. Works with the Director of Program and Ministry to supervise all programs and activities. Will need to work some weekends. Others responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Program and Ministry.
Desired qualities: Understanding of the vision, values, traditions and mission of Lakeview Methodist Conference Center. Is organized and can effectively communicate with campers, parents, staff, and volunteers. Is passionate about camp ministry and its ability to impact lives. Understanding of and commitment to United Methodist theology and Wesleyan tradition, active in a local congregation. Has the ability to balance friendship and authority in a Christ-like manner. Shows the ability to get along with others no matter the level of stress. Flexibility for the unknown and for the unexpected. Spiritual and emotional maturity. Willingness to serve and perform tasks other than those assigned. State and federal background clearances will be required before employment begins.
Compensation: Full time position, competitive annual salary based on experience and benefits. Living onsite is required. Housing provided.
