Safety and Recreation Coordinator

Purpose Statement:
The purpose of the Safety and Recreation Coordinator is to work as an advocate for both guests and staff in order to maximize the experience of the guest and the effectiveness of Tejas as a ministry. This person will serve alongside the Tejas team in fulfilling the Tejas mission of Setting the Stage for Jesus to Transform Lives. This is accomplished by exemplifying our core values: People, Service, and Adventure.

Responsibilities:

Safety Responsibilities

*Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe environment for our staff and guests
*Coordinating and managing all inspections for camp
*Work with Facilities team to make sure all equipment is safe and functioning and report any faulty activity equipment
*Go over all rules and safety precautions with staff
*Keep First Aid Kits well stocked and provide care when needed
*Provide Summer group nurses with necessary equipment and make sure their needs are met
*Keep logs of Guest Incident Reports and inform correct personnel
*Work with Human Resources on Workers Comp claims
*Develop, maintain and properly execute all Emergency Plans when needed
*Report unsafe conditions or work that creates a safety issue to supervisor immediately

Recreation Responsibilities

*Coordinate the Adventure Tower program
Equipment inspections, setup, safety, rules, policies and training
*Coordinate the Waterfront and pool program
Equipment inspections, setup, safety, rules, policies and training
*Teach the camp rules to each new session of campers and help enforce them. *Encourage respect for others, their personal property, all camp property, equipment and facilities.
*Ensure appropriate resources and supplies are ordered for all recreation activities.
*Maintaining a safe environment on all recreation activities
*Development and implementation of new recreational activities

Training & Oversight Responsibilities

*Obtain/maintain Lifeguard Instructor certification for instructional purposes
*Obtain/maintain a Level 1 Challenge Course certification in order to train in operating and providing oversight to our adventure elements

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
Previous camp experience preferred
Lifeguard and ropes course certified or willing to be certified
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and effective involvement in ministry
Be flexible and respond in grace when unforeseen situations require your assistance
Maintain short accounts with all guests and staff
Demonstrate a desire to grow spiritually and professionally
Demonstrate an understanding of Safety and Recreation regarding guest experience
Demonstrate actions and understanding of spiritual maturity

Work Schedule:
40 to 50 hours per week on a varied schedule
