Off Season Cook Job Description - Updated January 2019
Responsible to: Food Service Manager
Time: Part-Time during Off Season (Aug 11-May 19)
General Responsibility: The safe preparation and service of meals.
Vision of Success: Serving Christ by leading the kitchen staff in preparing and serving healthy, tasty, safe and timely meals.
-Active in a local church, holy lifestyle, committed to ministry.
-High school diploma required.
-Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task and manage a variety of tasks.
-Prior experience cooking food for groups. Capability to prepare quality meals for groups of up to 225 people.
-Hold a current ServSafe® Manager Certification(or equivalent) or the ability to complete food manager training.
-Hold a current ServSafe® Food Allergens Certification or the ability to complete food allergen training.
-Experience in supervising the work of others.
-Demonstrated ability to get along well with people and be “guest minded” at all times.
-Alignment with our statement of beliefs and organizational essentials including shared core values, a sense of personal calling to our mission, a commitment to our vision.
-Agree to live on site or within a reasonable daily commute to the camp property.
-Supervise employees and volunteers assigned to the food service area.
-Produce quality and visually appealing meals for guests.
-Maintain a clean and efficient kitchen under the direction of the Food Service Manager.
-Coordinate with the Food Service Manager for menus, schedules, allergen needs, and special requests.
-Responsibilities beyond the scope of this job description may be occasionally required.
-Basic computer and internet skills, primarily for internal communication.
-Proficiency in food service and kitchen equipment operation.
-Be able to occasionally make shopping runs.
-Ability to stand for long periods and lift or carry items 40 lbs. or less.
-Visually identify hazards, needed repairs, and necessary cleaning throughout the kitchen, and be able to respond appropriately.
-Be an advocate and fan of our camp
Compensation and benefits:
-Part-time employment during off season with hourly wages paid every 2 weeks, rate dependent on experience.
-Benefits: Meals included when food service is active. Overnight housing as required to fulfill your duties.
-Compensation/benefits are subject to annual review and may change.
Expected work schedule and paid time off summary:
-The annual work period is January 1 - Dec 31. The off-season work period is August 11-May19.
-Typical off season work is on weekends, 2.5 work days with some flexibility. Fridays (½-1 day), Saturdays(full day), and Sundays (½-1 day) are the required work days.
-Work will not be required on all weekends, some flexibility of choice.
-Occasional overtime hours may be required. Overtime is any hours worked over 40 hours in a Sunday-Saturday period and is paid at 1 ½ times regular hourly rate.
