Summer Staff

Counselors are the lifeblood of Camp Living Stones. A counselor serves for 9 weeks as the leader of camp. A counselor is trained to facilitate camp activities, oversee campers in their lodging, perform CPR/first aid, lead a small group of students, provide spiritual counsel, and share a personal testimony. A counselor is a servant who leads campers by an exemplary lifestyle.

Essential Job Functions:

1.Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their cabins, within all activities and throughout the camp property.

Assure campers are properly supervised at all times.
Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.

2.Intentionally connect with campers in order to meet them wherever they may be spiritually and engage them in relevant and relational conversation concerning Christ.

3.Participate in the implementation of program activities for campers.

Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching and debriefing of activities.
Actively participate with students in all program areas including chapel, meals, activities, events, excursions, free time, cabin time.

4.Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.

Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
Be alert to campers’ needs and assist them with personal and/or health concerns.
Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to camp maintenance and safety director.

5.Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.

Follow and uphold all safety rules and procedures.
Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices.
Be punctual, optimistic, assertive and energized for all staff meetings, chapel services, meals, activities, events, excursions, free times and cabin times.

Other Job Duties:

Participate in all aspects of maintaining and cleaning of camp grounds, vehicles and facilities including, but not limited to: organizing, sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing dishes, pressure-washing, weeding, mowing, dumping trash, re-filling, re-stocking, replacing empty/broken/damaged items…etc. (all of these are subject to expansion and are expected to be tended to promptly with good attitudes befitting a follower of Jesus Christ)

Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)

Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate.

Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.

Ability to interact with all age levels.

The counselor position requires physical endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; It will also require eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities. Counselors must have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., along with the willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities, and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.

We would love to explore other ways to utilize and strengthen the gifts God has given our counselors as well, whether it is preaching, leading worship through music, facilitating art projects...etc. This position is best suited for university students who have a passion for reaching youth for Christ through lots of personal interaction and prayer.
