Department: CODES School/Outdoor Education for 5-8th grade

Appointment Type: Full-Time, Seasonal for SPRING (January - May 2019), with opportunities for continued employment through SUMMER (May - August 2019)

Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead and instruct trail groups of 10-25 students on hikes (classes) through the San Bernardino National Forest
• Design your own lesson plans based on the CODES curriculum and CA Next Generation Science Standards curriculum
• Facilitate meals and the fun, interactive activities that happen therein
• Instruct and lead camp activities such as archery, rock wall, zipline, kayaking/canoeing, etc.
• Run and participate in large group games, skit nights, campfire activities, etc.
• Maintain a balance of fun and discipline to ensure a world class experience for all schools in attendance

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Be a Cabin Leader (counselor, non-teaching role)
• Help with all-camp duties such as Turn-Over (prepping cabins and common areas for the next group), Kitchen Team (cooking, serving meals, dishes), Maintenance, and program (zipline, pool, lake hike) for non-school guest groups in attendance on weekends

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma and valid driver's license are required
• Good moral character, strong leadership skills & a high level of maturity

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in education, life sciences, biological sciences, parks and recreation, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Able to instruct elementary and middle school-aged students in an informal (outdoor) setting using experiential/hands-on learning activities and exploration
• Passionate about science, nature, camping and the outdoors
• Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills
• Able to quickly respond to emergency situations
• Previous experience working with youth
• Able to interact comfortably with, and manage, students of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and students with special learning needs
• Able to accept guidance and supervision
• Outgoing, friendly demeanor, able to speak to large groups of students and teachers
• Able to navigate wilderness trails averaging 2-4mi/day
• A strong commitment to Christ, demonstrating good character, integrity and adaptability
• A current American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and/or Wilderness First Aid certification (will be provided through training)
