About Prairie River Camp: Prairie River Camp is located in southern Minnesota and owned and operated by the South Central Minnesota chapter of Youth for Christ. Prairie River Camp serves people from all over through summer camps, high adventure activities, and weekend programs, all while offering superb retreat facilities for guest groups. Prairie River camp is a small camp, but has great potential to grow!
Position: Prairie River Camp is looking for a Camp Director that will lead the camp ministry forward into the coming years. Primary duties will consist of overseeing the ministry of programmed camps, coordinating and facilitating retreat and guest groups, and effectively overseeing the administration of the camp as a whole. Additional duties will consist of fund development, public relations, and staff development. This position will have oversight over other full and part time staff, summer staff and volunteers.
Reports to: South Central Minnesota Youth for Christ Executive Director
Primary responsibilities in the following areas:
Programmed Camp Ministry
o Planning the theme, direction, and ministry focus of all programmed camps.
o Recruiting and scheduling speakers, music leaders, volunteer teams and cabin leaders (counselors) for all programmed camps.
o Providing training for all camp staff and volunteers
o Oversee the registration process and housing assignments for all programmed camps.
o Recruiting and hiring summer staff personnel.
Facilitating Guest Groups & Retreats
o Provide clear rental information through various outlets regarding PRC’s retreat and guest group options
o Communicate in a prompt manner to all guest group inquires.
o Maintain a clear reservation process for all guest groups.
o Set up, schedule and coordinate all housing, food service, and activity facilitation for guest group retreats.
o Handle all payments and deposits.
o Serve as the on-site host for guest group retreats.
o Produce camp budgets for all programmed camps.
o Oversee the ordering and delivery of all food, program, housekeeping, and miscellaneous supplies for camp.
o Ensure that the legal, YFC organizational and fiscal requirements are met through careful management.
o Ensure that the camp complies with all state and local guidelines and requirements.
o Attend CCCA regional conferences and YFC regional conferences.
o Work closely with the Support and Advisory Team to ensure the overall ministry goals of the camp are being met and enable the committee members to fulfil their role as members.
o Work diligently to develop and maintain a funding base of personal supporters through a network of family and friends. The required amount will be determined by the executive director and the Board.
o Work diligently to develop a local funding base through sharing the ministry with area churches, organizations, business and individuals.
Public Relations / Marketing
o Work to see that PRC and its mission have visibility through the following avenues:
Speaking at local churches
Speaking at civic organizations
Speaking at YFC chapters and local ministry sites
Continuing to improve and upkeep the direct mail marketing plan
Continuing to improve and upkeep the email marketing plan
Utilizing paid and free advertisement options in newspaper, radio and TV.
o Recruit and select paid staff.
o Train, place and supervise the staff to do the work of the ministry.
o Lead in ongoing staff meetings and training that will further strengthen the group as a whole to pursue the mission of the organization.
Experience is essential in several of the following areas:
• 3+ years of administrative leadership or management experience – preferably in camp ministry.
• Youth ministry
• Creative programming
• Clear, concise communication
• Public speaking
• Public relations
As a leader in this ministry, the Camp Director should exhibit the following characteristics:
• Committed follower of Jesus Christ who is committed to his Lordship.
• A strong desire to see the outdoors used as a tool to share the life changing message of Jesus Christ.
• High level or organization and self-motivation. Detail oriented.
• The ability to prioritize tasks and work through them in an efficient manner.
• The desire and ability to lead and manage other worker and volunteers in a clear and encouraging manner.
• A clear communicator who is able to interact with guests provide resources for them.
• Friendly, supportive, servant-leader.
• A team player who wholly supports and engages in the mission of the organization.
• Ability to direct multiple projects and work crews.
• Ability to work independently.
• Diligent in project completion and overseeing the same.
• Organized initiator.
At Prairie River Camp, the Camp Director is a full-time, salaried position. The Camp Director will be responsible to raise a portion of their salary. Housing, utilities, health insurance reimbursement, and other benefits are also included.
