Information

Sunset Lake is a summer camp and retreat center set on 400 acres in the beautiful foothills of Mount Rainier in Washington State. We exist to invite campers and guests to experience the grace of Jesus through inclusive community and outdoor adventures. Owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Sunset Lake is a place where all are welcome to connect with God through his creation. Coming to Sunset Lake should be a little taste of heaven.

Sunset Lake runs eight weeks of summer camp and hosts thousands of people from churches, civic groups, schools and youth organizations across the Pacific Northwest region.






Our story began in the late 1800s when the Snell family settled the land. They carved out a clearing near a mountain stream and planted an apple orchard. When coal was discovered in the area, they launched a small mining operation. The South Willis Mining Company opened a larger mine near what is now Lake Kepka. But it was George Kepka Sr. who shaped the land into what we know today by damming up the stream, flooding the apple orchard and creating Sunset Lake.

A youth camp was held later that year in 1957. The campers slept in tents and took baths in the lake. It was the beginning of more than 60 years of summer camps to be held on these grounds.

Recognizing that some guests have special needs and may not be able to participate in regular camping programs, we set aside camp sessions specifically for guests with the following conditions:

We are set up to handle the following group sizes in the various seasons:

During the summer, we can take care of up to 300 guests. In the spring, we can accommodate 300 guests. Our winter capacity is 300. Finally, in fall, we have enough room for 300 guests.

We also offer the following special activities and features:

Life guard training, Wakeboarding, Canoeing, Swimming, Lego Robotics, Engineering Camps, Computer Game Programming, ATV program, Horsemanship, Archery, Challenge Course, Bikes, Rock Climbing, Arts and Crafts, Arts - music, drama, photography, Nature/Adventure

Location

Sunset Lake is located 25 Miles east of Tacoma in the foothills of Mount Rainier only an hour from downtown Seattle. Follow your GPS to Wilkeson. Then turn left on Railroad Ave. Do not turn on any other roads. The name of the road changes to Quinnon Ext. Rd E. and goes directly to our entrance road. If you stay on the pavement and go through the gate you will arrive at the gym a mile after crossing the gate. The office is located in the other side of the gym building. Please park in the back and walk around to the entrance on the other side.
