The campers we serve are kids born in the '90s and later. I call them Generation iY because of the impact of the Internet. They have grown up online impacted by iTunes, iPods, iPhones, iMovies, iChat...and for many of them, life is pretty much about "I." So how do we lead camps and conferences with them in mind? How do we transform our environments into EPIC places that are Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich and Connected? In this session, we will prepare future directors to lead effectively using what is cultural to say, what is timeless and to pave the way for the future. Monday, Dec. 6

Head Start Workshop Marketing Strategies and Vehicles The Rhythm of Rest: Sabbath-Keeping in the 21st Century We know how to run hard, but do we know how to rest well? Woven into the fabric of creation is a rhythm of rest that is restorative and life-giving—yet completely neglected by believers today. Running on the fumes of an empty tank we serve with a self-imposed limp. Sabbath-keeping reintroduces us to the peace and quiet our souls have tried to live without. Making a commitment to veer off the freeway long enough to explore the road less traveled, a pathway Jesus knew well, repositions us for power, purpose and God's presence. Choosing to realign our lives to the motto "Run hard. Rest well." is a sacred act of defiance, devotion and deliverance. Monday, Dec. 6 Mastering the Management Buckets: Creating Goal Alignment Between Your Staff, Volunteers and Board Members Leading a ministry is complex, so teams must diligently master the 20 management core competencies (buckets) so they are results-driven versus activity-driven. This highly practical "Best of the Buckets" day promises 29 take-aways from the Results Bucket, the Strategy Bucket, the Team Bucket, the Board Bucket, the Volunteer Bucket and the Hoopla! Bucket. (If you have time, please read those six chapters in Mastering the Management Buckets by John Pearson before you come, or at least surf those buckets and the free downloads at www.ManagementBuckets.com.) Monday, Dec. 6 Packing 'Em in on a Shoestring: Marketing Strategies for a Struggling Economy "Budget, budget, lack of funds and budget. How do I grow? How do I cut costs? What's next?" It's amazing how many of us have these internal conversations on a daily basis. Please bring a pen, note pad and all the questions you have. This strategy session (back-and-forth dialog) will be your opportunity to get low-to-no-budget solutions for all the opportunities and challenges you face. Monday, Dec. 6 |

Adding the WOW Factor on a Less-Than-Wow Budget Maintaining interest in foodservice at camping and retreat ministries is enhanced by adding a certain "WOW" factor to the overall experience. Being able to do this within the constraints of time, resources and finances is difficult, but not impossible. Join us for this workshop that will look at some "WOW" approaches to presentation and the dining experience that are affordable and attainable. Bring along some of your own ideas and stories to share with your colleagues. Tuesday, Dec. 7 Nourishing the Kingdom of God Nourishing people reaches beyond simply providing nutritional meals. People are nourished on what they see, hear, sense, touch, think about and talk about. Let's explore the many ways that people are nourished in camping and retreat ministries, and develop positive outcomes that the foodservice department can offer to the overall camping and retreat ministry program. Thursday, Dec. 9 Training the Young Chef: Food Preparation With 8- to 12-Year-Old Campers Have fun and teach campers some food preparation skills and healthy eating ideas. Spreadsheets and Food Charts and Systems in General... These Are a Few of My Favorite Things: The Advantages of Using Systems in Food Service Management Let's talk systems! Simply defined, a "system" is an organized, intentional method for doing the things you already do. You're going to write an employee schedule—why not have a system (a spreadsheet) that calculates dollars spent versus budget? Other applications include using written recipes, cleaning lists, allergy or special diet menus, opening and closing checklists, etc. Even if you're not an Excel nerd, there will be plenty to take away from this seminar. Tuesday, Dec. 7 The Power of Presentation When people hear the tern "food presentation", they tend to think "fancy" only. They fail to see the simple things they should be doing every day to make every meal special. From hiding cleaning supplies to food labeling and beverage line symmetry, we will cover many examples that often get overlooked in the kitchen and dining room. Then we will finish with the "fancy" to get your creative juices flowing. Tuesday, Dec. 7 |

Day in and Day out: The Daily Disciplines of an Effective and Maturing Camp Leader Christian camping can take more than it gives. Serving others can drain our physical, emotional and spiritual reserves. This seminar will explore ways to develop support and refreshment for the long-haul of ministry, examine opportunities to grow as a leader of your family and camp, and it will examine methods God has designed to restore our souls. Thursday, Dec. 9 Mastering Fear: Discovering and Leveraging Deep Fears that Thwart Maximum Ministry Fear is an incredibly human quality, which serves only in two ways: beneficial or harmful. Remember as a child your tummy filling with butterflies? Could it be that you were afraid? As a child, fear is used by parents to keep them from harm. Your harmful fear will cause you to lock up; beneficial fear will cause you to flee from danger. In other words, fear can be friend or foe. Come to this workshop to discover harmful fears and to turn them into the one and only fear we are to have. The key to change is to let go of fear. Wednesday, Dec. 8
Living in the Light: The Healing That Comes From Honest Accountability Accountability equals friendship. "Secrets have no power when they are in the light." —William Paul Young; "Whatever is denied cannot be healed." —Brennan Manning; "He who conceals his sin will not prosper; he who confesses and renounces them finds mercy." —Proverbs 28:13. Let's share stories of how close relationships can encourage us, sharpen us and in some cases, save us. Wednesday, Dec. 8 |

Whether anger is something you endure or dish out, we'll explore it from the inside out. Tuesday, Dec. 7
