HoneyRock Fellows - Program Assistant
HoneyRock Fellows Program Assistant: The HoneyRock Fellowship program is for college graduates interested in exploring professional camping ministry. The Fellowship includes Wheaton College graduate classes on spiritual formation and vocational discernment, participating in the leadership development progression, community living, paid work and discipleship of Vanguard gap year students. This position will receive training and gain practical experience in hosting retreat groups of all types and sizes. These HoneyRock Fellow will be responsible for all aspects of group care and leadership, including prep work, group activity leading and clean-up once the group has departed. This position will learn to lead many outdoor winter activities, work outside in cold and snowy conditions, and assist the retreat coordinator in all aspects of the retreat ministry.
The HoneyRock Fellows Program Assistants are full-time seasonal employees who work under the supervision of the HoneyRock Retreat Coordinator. Program Assistants will receive training in and gain practical experience planning for and hosting retreat groups. These Fellows will be responsible for all aspects of group care and leadership including preparation work, leadership while groups are at HoneyRock, and cleanup once gone. This position will learn to lead the many outdoor winter activities, work outside in cold and snowy conditions, and assist the retreat coordinator in all aspects of the retreat ministry.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a member of the HoneyRock staff team, fulfill the mission, vision and core values of HoneyRock and Wheaton College.
Engage as an active member in retreats and in-service training for the purpose of planning, information sharing, support, and personal, professional and community development.
Growth and development of Vanguards: encourage Vanguards’ growth toward wholeness in Christ as well as maturity in thought, speech and behavior and in their understanding of living together as members of Christ’s body.
Policies and procedures: hold students accountable to follow the policies and procedures of HoneyRock and of Wheaton College.
Host assigned retreats. Hosting includes communicating with group leaders, planning and scheduling activities, leading activities and events, cleaning and following up after departure.
Maintain retreat related activity areas.
Support other retreat hosts.
Preform other duties as required.
Evidence of Christian character and commitment.
Understand, support and enforce the Community Covenant.
Excellent attitude, teach-ability, and strong work ethic.
Good interpersonal skills; team player.
Desire to encourage students to develop into who servants of Christ.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Able to pass Wheaton driving test and requirements.
Previous experience in camp, adventure or outdoor-related ministries.
Willingness & ability to be flexible with the needs of the job.
Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs – increased amounts of weight may be required.
Out of town and overnight travel is required.
All HoneyRock Fellows positions receive a total of $4,000.00 distributed in bi-weekly payments.
All HoneyRock Fellows positions involve a program fee of $4,500.00. This fee can be paid throughout the year using the stipend or fundraised. (Recommended). The program Fee covers the cost of four graduate level credits, al course materials, CCCA Sectional Conference attendance, retreats, wilderness trips and other program expenses. They will work from the last week of August until the first week of May with the opportunity to work through the summer.
