HoneyRock Fellows - Equestrian Assistant

HoneyRock Fellows Equestrian Assistant: The HoneyRock Fellowship program is for college graduates interested in exploring professional camping ministry. The Fellowship includes Wheaton College graduate classes on spiritual formation and vocational discernment, participating in the leadership development progression, community living, paid work and discipleship of Vanguard gap year students. Responsibilities will include assisting in the daily care of 20 horses, barn chores, leading trail rides, and assisting with sleigh rides. Majority of the time will be spent outside, and previous riding experience is preferred, but not required. When not assisting with the equestrian program, this person will help with site and facility care including snow removal, winter activity area maintenance, and other general duties as well.

The HoneyRock Fellows Equestrian Assistants are full-time seasonal employees who work under the supervision of the HoneyRock Ranch Manager. The Equestrian Assistants will be responsible for daily care of 20 horses and maintenance of the barn facility and related equipment. The Equestrian Assistants will also train horses, lead trail rides and teach lessons to various groups. They will also supervise Vanguard Gap Year students working in the barn three days per week.

Responsibilities and Duties:
As a member of the HoneyRock staff team, fulfill the mission, vision and core values of HoneyRock and Wheaton College.
Engage as an active member in retreats and in-service training for the purpose of planning, information sharing, support, and personal, professional and community development.
Growth and development of Vanguards: encourage Vanguards’ growth toward wholeness in Christ as well as maturity in thought, speech and behavior and in their understanding of living together as members of Christ’s body.
Policies and procedures: hold students accountable to follow the policies and procedures of HoneyRock and of Wheaton College.
Assist in the daily care of 20 horses. This includes feeding, administering medications, grooming and cleaning stalls.
Lead trail rides for staff and retreat groups.
Assist with sleigh rides.
Assist in training of horses.
Supervise Vanguard Gap Year students working in the barn three days per week.
Preform other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Evidence of Christian character and commitment.
Understand, support and enforce the Community Covenant.
Excellent attitude, teach-ability, and strong work ethic.
Good interpersonal skills; team player.
Desire to encourage students to develop into who servants of Christ.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Able to pass Wheaton driving test and requirements.
Previous experience in camp, adventure or outdoor-related ministries.
Willingness & ability to be flexible with the needs of the job.
Previous equestrian experience.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs - increased amounts of weight may be required.

Pay:
All HoneyRock Fellows positions receive a total of $4,000.00 distributed in bi-weekly payments.

All HoneyRock Fellows positions involve a program fee of $4,500.00. This fee can be paid throughout the year using the stipend or fundraised. (Recommended). The program Fee covers the cost of four graduate level credits, al course materials, CCCA Sectional Conference attendance, retreats, wilderness trips and other program expenses. They will work from the last week of August until the first week of May with the opportunity to work through the summer.
