HoneyRock Fellows - Kitchen Assistant

HoneyRock Fellows Kitchen Assistant: The HoneyRock Fellowship program is for college graduates interested in exploring professional camping ministry. The Fellowship includes Wheaton College graduate classes on spiritual formation and vocational discernment, participating in the leadership development progression, community living, paid work and discipleship of Vanguard gap year students. This position will work under the guest services coordinator
alongside other cooks to prepare and serve meals for the community and the guests that HoneyRock hosts. The Kitchen Assistant will be training in meal planning, ordering and preparation and will have significant responsibilities in that regard. The Kitchen Assistant will also lead and mentor Vanguard Gap Year students working in the kitchen three days per week. 

The HoneyRock Fellows Kitchen Assistants are full-time seasonal employees who work under the supervision of the HoneyRock Hospitality Manager alongside other cooks to prepare and serve meals for the community and the guests that HoneyRock hosts. The HoneyRock Fellows Kitchen Assistants will be training in meal planning, ordering and preparation and will have significant responsibilities in that regard. The HoneyRock Fellows Kitchen Assistants will also lead and mentor Vanguard Gap Year students working in the kitchen three days per week.

Responsibilities and Duties:
As a member of the HoneyRock staff team, fulfill the mission, vision and core values of HoneyRock and Wheaton College.
Engage as an active member in retreats and in-service training for the purpose of planning, information sharing, support, and personal, professional and community development.
Growth and development of Vanguards: encourage Vanguards’ growth toward wholeness in Christ as well as maturity in thought, speech and behavior and in their understanding of living together as members of Christ’s body.
Policies and procedures: hold students accountable to follow the policies and procedures of HoneyRock and of Wheaton College.
Plan meals and order food.
Prepare and serve hot meals to staff and retreat guests.
Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and area.
Supervise Vanguard Gap Year students working in the kitchen.

Qualifications:
Evidence of Christian character and commitment.
Understand, support and enforce the Community Covenant.
Excellent attitude, teach-ability, and strong work ethic.
Good interpersonal skills; team player.
Desire to encourage students to develop into who servants of Christ.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Able to pass Wheaton driving test and requirements.
Previous experience in camp, adventure or outdoor-related ministries.
Willingness & ability to be flexible with the needs of the job.
Past culinary experience preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs - increased amounts of weight may be required.

Pay:
All HoneyRock Fellows positions receive a total of $4,000.00 distributed in bi-weekly payments.

All HoneyRock Fellows positions involve a program fee of $4,500.00. This fee can be paid throughout the year using the stipend or fundraised. (Recommended). The program Fee covers the cost of four graduate level credits, al course materials, CCCA Sectional Conference attendance, retreats, wilderness trips and other program expenses. They will work from the last week of August until the first week of May with the opportunity to work through the summer.
