Head Wrangler

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible to implement management of the herd, including maintenance of health and safety; training; riding program; barn, pasture & equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Stable Maintenance
o Cleaning Barn including stalls and surrounding area
o Communicates facility needs to immediate supervisor.
o Manure management
o Developing and maintaining trails
o Maintaining corrals, pens, arenas, and pastures
o Equipment care – i.e. Clean, oil, repair and replace tack as needed
• Maintenance and health of the herd
o Basic veterinary knowledge
o Feeds and understands nutritional needs of the herd and senior animals
o Fly management
o Worming and vaccinations
o Keeps accurate health records and submits them to Horsemanship Director
• Safety
o Notice and correct safety hazards to campers, staff, and horses
o Be able to identify when a horse is unsafe
• Training of the horses
o Tuning up horses
o Maintaining vaulting horses
• Trail rides
o Assist Horsemanship Director in trail ride preparation
o Lead trail rides when directed
o Assist guests for trail ride
o Assist in evaluating riding skills of guest when requested
o Assist in safely matching suitable horses with rider’s ability and mental state when requested
o Conduct a safe, enjoyable and successful ride
• Participates in PCCC Program Camps as directed

JOB SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrates a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, exercising personal faith through consistent daily living in accordance to God’s Word
• Understands the mission of Palomar Christian Conference Center and is in agreement with its Statement of Faith, and submits all other goals and desires to that main goal
• Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Interpersonal skills required to maintain positive relations with both staff and guests
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and file management
• Basic skills in and data entry
• Possesses excellent customer service skills and presents a professional appearance and demeanor
• Possesses strong attention to detail and organization while managing multiple priorities.
• Must have at least (2) two years prior work experience in comparable field.
• Possesses strong basic equestrian knowledge and experience.
• Is certified or equivalent to a CHA level 2.
• First Aid / CPR / CCAC certified (will train)
• Must have extensive horse experience and understand horse behavior.
• Able to handle difficult horses
• Possesses good customer service skills and presents a professional appearance and manner.
• Possesses strong attention to detail and organization while managing multiple priorities.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and move a minimum of 100lbs.
